Going through a breakup is never easy for anyone but it's especially hard to watch when it is your best friend. You were there to experience all the joy of her relationship, but now it's time to experience the pain and heartbreak. There's never anything truly "right" to do after a breakup, but there are precautionary steps to take to try to make things easier on her and show her that you will always love her more than some boy.
Analyzing texts over and over.
You might as well be having the conversation yourself for the amount of effort you're putting into this conversation but you don't mind because you don't want your friend saying things she will regret later when she's no longer in a state of depression or denial.
Supplying a massive amount of food.
One requirement of a breakup is to eat as much food as you want without feeling guilty. Your heart is broken it's okay to eat that fourth slice of pizza even after you just finished a whole tub of ice cream.
Absolutely never taking the other's side.
Your best friend is right and will always be right even if she is wrong, but you never tell her that because she will rip your head off and hate you for probably at least a week after.
Keeping your phone of loud at all times.
Even if it's 3 a.m. you better answer that phone call because you know it's just going to be your best friend crying on the other side and you need to be there to comfort her.
Having to go to parties when you don't want to.
Your best friend is on a war path and she'll do anything to make her ex jealous, even if it means dragging you to a party when you were already in bed for an hour.
Dealing with the frequent meltdowns.
Broken hearts hurt and they can hurt at random times when least expected. If your best friend all of a sudden starts crying because you passed a street that reminded her of her ex it is now your job to cheer her up again and remind her she's better off anyway.
Push her.
There's going to be days when she can't get out of bed because she's too depressed or upset about what has happened, but that's why you are there to remind her that she never needed this boy and that she'll find someone else even better, but until then she has you and that'll have to do.
