What To Do When You Are Feeeling Down
Colleen Mayer

Ever felt down and didn’t really know how to fix it or where even to start? Believe me everyone has had their down moments and I can’t stress enough that this feeling will pass. I have found a few things that really help me when I am feeling down or stressed. I hope that this will help others realize that feeling down is okay sometimes and it can be difficult to get rid of it but it is better to try than to let it linger.

1. Surround yourself with the best company

A lot of people don’t realize how much good company can help you. I know sometimes all you really want to do is be alone but this leads to over thinking situations and letting the bitterness bundle up. If you go out with one or two people and completely get away from the down thoughts then it will make you feel a whole lot better at least for just a little bit.

2. Find an activity

There are so many things you can do for free that can get your mind off of things as well as just make you happier overall. I enjoy writing but a lot of my friends say that when they are down they enjoy cooking, going on a walk, or even cleaning. Just feeling accomplished and getting stuff done around the house can make your mind wander off into happier thoughts.

3. Make a list

Make a list of things you need to get done or just make a simple bucket list for life. Listing off things that you wish to accomplish can give you hopeful thoughts. Maybe even make a list of things to do around your house or what you want to do that day and then when you do accomplish them you will feel a lot better.

4. Plan out your day

If you have been in a funk for a few days now then plan out your day by the hour. Tell yourself every place you are going to go, who you are going to see, even write out the simple things like brushing your teeth and going to bed. At the end of the day when you see all the small things you got done you will feel more organized and it will help get your mind off of different thoughts.

5.Buy something for yourself

I know I said there are a lot of free things to help you get your mind off of things but this one honestly really helps me. I am not saying go out and buy a brand new car but just going out and getting your favorite coffee or some ice-cream can make your day a whole lot brighter. Even invite some good company for you to have come along.

Like I said at the start, I can’t stress enough that this feeling will go away and you will be able to become a happy, healthier person. Just follow the steps and stay jolly.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
