Even though August marks the last full month of summer, indicating the season is quickly coming to an end, have no fear because there is still a lot you can do. Besides just the usual summer stuff like going to the beach or to a cabin, there are even more things you could do this coming month across the nation from festivals to concerts to birthdays to sporting events. Here are just a few suggestions:
1. Celebrate The Olympics
The 2016 Olympics is probably the most anticipated event of this August, and luckily for you, it lasts nearly the entire month. Olympic parties are going to be theme of August, so make sure to have your Team USA gear ready! Not to mention Team USA will most likely dominate in lots of events (like we do every year).
2. Watch The PGA Golf Tournament
Head over to Kohler, Wisconsin for one of the world's biggest and most popular golf tournaments. Most of the biggest names in golf will be in attendance yet again this year hoping to win the championship. Whistling Straits, the golf course it's held at, is basically a golfer's paradise purely based on its beauty.
3. Jam Out At Lollapalooza
Held in one of our country's largest cities, Chicago, Illinois hosts a music lover's dream come true every year in Grant Park. The three-day festival mixes all different music genres ranging from pop to hip-hop to alternative rock, so there's something for all music tastes. Some big acts have hit the stage in past years and by the looks of it, this year is no different. Check out the line-up here.
4. Check Out Burning Man
If Lollapalooza isn't your festival style or is too far away, go check out Burning Man located in the remote Black Rock Desert, Nevada. As the title alludes to, there are larger-than-life fires you don't want to miss. It definitely takes the classic summer bonfire to the extreme. If that's not enough, Burning Man brings in a few hundred thousand people each year and offers an unforgettable outdoor experience with music, food and celebration.
5. Celebrate Hawaii's Birthday
Get out those hula skirts and leis because August 21st is our youngest state's birthday. As if you really need an excuse to throw a Hawaiian themed party, now you have a good one! Gather up some people and celebrate the birth of the US' most tropical state.
6. Attend Your State Fair
It's State Fair season, which means loads of fried food on sticks, farm animals and witnessing the weirdness your state has to offer. It's always an interesting experience when visiting the fair but one everyone should have at least once in their lives...or if you're like me, at least once every summer. Also be sure to check out your state's calendar of events for the fair; there can be some shockingly good concerts.
7. Read the New "Harry Potter" Book
For all the Potter lovers out there, J.K. Rowling is releasing the newest book based off the popular series called "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child." The book is also a play currently showing in London and is a must-see if you have the chance. I don't want to give away any spoilers so I'll just say that I loved the play and am looking forward to reading the book when it comes out July 31st.
