What It's Actually Like To Be A Buffalo State Student

After attending Buffalo State for three years, I have experienced so much. The things that I listed below are some things that I think almost every Buffalo State student can relate to. If you can't relate to at least one, then you probably live under a rock.

1. Dealing with crazy lines

Whether it's food or an event on campus you know that you are going to deal with a crazy line. Certain times of the day are horrible times to get food. For an event you have to show up about an hour prior, to avoid dealing with a chaotic line. Even though it can be annoying at times, you just deal with it.

2. Not having a place to stay

Due to the amount of students accepted into Buffalo State, you know there is a chance you won't live on campus. Especially to the class of 2018. So off-campus apartments or houses might be your place to stay. By the way, make sure you put yourself down for the wait list if you still want to live on campus.

3. Living on another campus

Just to feed off of not having a place to stay, you might live at another school's campus. One of those school campuses may be Medaille college.

4. Living in a triple dorm room as a freshman

As a freshman you have to live in a triple. That means that there will be three people living in one dorm room. There will be a bunk bed and one single bed. If you live on the top bunk you get your own desk and closet. If you live on the bottom bunk be prepared to share your desk with the person on the single.

5. Bengal Pause

Everyone that attends Buffalo State knows what goes on Tuesday and Thursdays between 12:00 pm and 1:30 p.m in the Union. If you don't then clearly you don't go there. That time would be a horrible time to walk through looking a mess. Just know you're going to see everyone. Bengal Pause is a perfect time to get involved on campus. It's a great time to find out about different clubs and organizations. It's also a great time to network and meet new people.

6. "Springfest"

The end of the year concert that everyone is so crazy about. The artists that our picked for "springfest" usually is the most talked about on campus. Regardless if you like the artists, you know it's still going to be lit. Most artists that we get tend to really blow up after performing at our school. Also if we like them, we bring them back a second time. I'm not saying any names but let's just say he's not a regular person.

7. Having a side hustle

Almost every person on Buffalo State campus has a little side hustle. They vary from doing hair, clothing lines, photography, student drivers, and etc. If a buffalo state student can't motivate you to hustle then I don't know what will.

So that's pretty much a random list of what goes on at Buffalo State. There are so many more things, but that's just a few. What did you relate to in the list?

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
