What It's Like Being From Pittsburgh

So there are tons of ways to recognize a true Pittsburgh resident. Some ways being that the word yinz and expecting fries on our salad have become natural to us. But of all things Pittsburgh has to offer, we like to go the extra mile for our sports teams and their fan base. Here are some things I'd like to shine a light on for a second...

- You don't just like a team.... you LOVE it. Basically you'd do anything to get to a game in the city

- Penn State or Pitt.... no, you can't pick both.

- We will close down the city to bring home the title of "The City of Champions."

- We put terrible towels in (almost) every store whenever possible.

- On game day, our city is a sea of black and gold, no matter which professional team is playing.

- We can fill arenas even when the team is playing an away game (ex.Stanley Cup finals 2016)

- We stand by our teams even when all hope is lost

- When in doubt, it's a sure fire way to get along with us as a city... just don't bad mouth our teams.

So, whether you live here or are just coming to visit, be prepared to be Pittsburgh Proud.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
