What It Is Really Like To Go To An All-Girls School
Saint Agnes Academy

High school is a major time in anyone’s life. Like a stepping stone, high school sort of sets you up for the rest of your life. Whether it leaves you clueless or determined, high school is a confusing and difficult place. Try factoring that into an all-girls high school environment. I attended Saint Agnes Academy in Houston, Texas for all four years of high school. Through Saint Agnes, I was taught much more than just your normal high school curriculum. Many people have their own ideas of what goes on at an all-girls school. Well, I am here to tell you exactly what goes on at an all-girls school and why attending one changed my life. And to anyone who has attended an all-girls school, I hope these memories are as good to you as they are to me.

1. Shaving is a personal choice that isn’t needed at all
2. Actually, the look when you ask your friend to feel your unshaven 4-week-old legs is so much better than shaving
3. Uniforms are your life
4. Sometimes you fall down and break your leg

5. Waking up late really isn’t a big deal because it only takes you five minutes to leave the house anyway
6. Makeup is a laughable joke during the week
7. Awkward years are OK because we all had them and there are pictures to prove it

8. Brushing your hair is not needed at all
9. Skirts are somewhat knee-length but can be unzipped and pulled down for an extra three inches during skirt checks
10. Sitting un-ladylike is pretty much how you live

11. Friend groups make your life better
12. But you often find yourself friends with people that are nothing like you
13. Sometimes you just have to take a nap

14. Boys are a common topic but then again so is food
15. Theology/Religion class can either be your favorite or worst part of your day
16. Comfort bypasses style any day (Chacos, Uggs, sweatpants, etc.)

17. You wouldn’t really call yourself a feminist but you’re basically a feminist
18. Starbucks is life
19. You really find yourself and who you want to be (most of the time)

20. You laugh when your brother school says that their classes are harder
21. The only thing that travels faster than gossip is, “Bake Sale Today”
22. Speaking of food, food is your life
23. Your teachers become more of your friends and guiders than anything else

24. You’re fully taught that you can be anything you want especially because you are a girl
25. You find your friends for life (gal pals for life)

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
