What Is Wrong With College Students?

It never seems to stop, but more students across the country have again lost their minds. Universities are supposed to be these areas of higher education, where we expand our minds to all sorts of different ideas. Yet the administrations of these univerisites have made the campuses biased towards the left. The results of the indoctrination of students have never been more apparent. There are countless examples, yet I will only talk about what has happened recently.

To start, let us go down to Missouri at Saint Louis Univerisity, home of the Bilikens. The Young Americans for Freedom organization sponsored to have retired Army Lt. Colonel and former U.S. congressman Allen West speak at the university. Allen West apparently made the students upset by his thoughts on a muslim organization on campus and calling the students cupcakes. An administrator told the conservative students they could not use "radical islam" in their advertisements for the event. Such nonsense. The Rainbow Alliance sent out an email about protesting the event for Wests so called "hate speech". The students wore matching shirts and walked out of the event as soon as West was introduced. They then had a bake sale with "cupcakes against hate". If the students wanted to show that they are not cupcakes or thin skinned, then walking out failed to do that. Maybe, and I am just throwing this out there, you should have stayed for the lecture and listened to a speaker instead of being intolerant. Yes, walking out and refusing to listen to a speaker because their ideas are opposing to yours and they might hurt your feelings is intolerant and close minded. What is even worse is the president of the univeristy congratulating the students for the ridiculous act. Go to collegefix to read more about it.

Next we go to the great plains, at Kansas University, go Jayhawks! (I am not a fan, just there for effect) So the YAF organization there, which is struggling to find an advisor because it is hard to find a conservative professor on campus, was polite and invited students to attend their meeting to have a reasonable discussion (something Cenk from the Young Turks knows nothing about). The leftist students who showed up to the meeting shouted down the YAF members, spewing nonsense with no logical claim. The students would hardly let the members get a single word out. According to one very loud and obnoxious SJW, if you are a conservative, you are auotmatically a white supremacist. Yes, these students are so peaceful and so tolerant for other ideas that do not align with their own. You can read about the first encounter here. Even after the insanity that came from the leftist students, YAF politely invited them back for another discussion. At the next discussion they were once again shouted down and accused of racism because why not? Apparently to these precious snowflakes, calling someone names is "literal violence" even though no physical harm was done. You can read the about the second encounter here.

Next up on the tour is the bastion of leftist ideology, California. This story takes place at California State University of Los Angeles which has been the center of other ludicrous protests. Earlier in the year Ben Shapiro, editor-in-chief of Dailywire, went to speak at the campus and was immediately met by crying protestors. They blocked the entrance to the event and students had to be sneaked in. The protestors assaulted people trying to get in. More recently. Christina Hoff Sommers has been scheduled to speak at campus. Her lecture is titled "Where Feminism Went Wrong" which caused some feminists on campus to be a tad bit upset. Posters were put up all across the campus by members of YAF. Some of the members caught two feminist students tearing down the posters because they were "offensive". They also claimed that tearing down the posters is their first amendment right. Tearing down posters because you find them offensive is not protected by the first amendment because that is vandalism. A member of YAF asked "So it's freedom of speech to infringe on our freedom of speech?", the vandals failed to comment. Read more here.

To finish this wonderful trip we will end in the heartland, right here at home at the wonderful University of Nebraska at Omaha. Last Tuesday as I was walking back to my car from working on homework in the student center, there on the steps outside were some protestors. They were protesting the pipeline going through the Dakotas. Now I asked whether they were against the access through native American land (which is wrong because it is not federal land) or if they were against crude oil all together. Turns out they were against crude oil all together. I did my best to explain to them the economics behind pipelines and how they are the safest mode of transportation we have for crude oil. I understand the effects oil has on the environment, but I also understand the importance for these resources. Forbes has an incredible article about the transportation of crude oil. So the moment I presented a differing viewpoint with facts they began to shout over me and interrupt me because feelings. I attempted to explain to one protestor that if you allow capitalism to work that it would also benefit the environment (a better economy has a direct relationship with a better environment but that is an entirely different discussion). The protestor shouted "Capitalism has failed!" and I had to do my best to not laugh. Capitalism has led more people out of abject poverty and socialism and its lover communism has led to the deaths of over 100 million people, but I digress. One girl was shouting at me how she is an environmental studies major, though she has been wrong on every issue she yelled at me, and I responded with "So then why are you wrong?". She did not take that well. I explained how facts don't care about your feelings and she got even more upset. Eventually I had to leave because unlike them, I had to go to work.

The protestors at UNO were not nearly as insane as the students at the other universities, yet it still shined a light onto the ignorance that is claiming so many. Many students are ignorant to facts or just a little too sensitive to the truth it seems. What is happening to students? What went wrong to allow this? We should be able to share all different viewpoints, without restricting each other's right to say it. However, these students are openly against having others with dissenting viewpoints be heard. Especially if you are conservative, or if you have facts and logic. The administrations of these schools are allowing this because they want this to happen. If you want to read more stories about the insanity that happens on college campuses, then go to campusreform.org. These little cupcakes are about to have their reality check get bounced.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
