7 Things You Definitely Don't Miss About High School

High school is always said to be the "best four years of your life," and for some people it is, but there is also a lot that you will not miss about it. Visiting my old high school the other day made me realize what I miss and what I do not miss about it. High school events can not compare to college, college life is indeed 100 times better than high school, at least in my opinion. As I can safely say high school was in fact not the best four years of my life there are definitely things I do miss, but there are many more that I do not. High school was filled with rough times but also good times. I miss some of the people, the music, the dances, running the school at some points, but not the things listed here in this article.

1. Dress Code

The great thing about college is that there is no dress code unless you have to dress business casual for a presentation or dress up for an event. The typical college dress seems to be athletic clothing. Gone are the days of worrying if you can get away with your outfit at school because there is no dress code whatsoever.

2. School Lunches

I do not know how schools get away with what they serve kids, but somehow they do. In high school, I would always bring my lunch because most of the lunches I saw served looked inedible to me, except the chicken fries. One lunch that I can distinctly remember being served was spaghetti with cheese and pepperoni baked on top.

3. All Seven Classes in One Day

I really do not know how I got through all my classes in one day, it just seems exhausting to me now. I love how in college I will only have three or four classes a day, all my classes five days a week just seems exhausting in my eyes now.

4. Punishments

I remember that people would get punished for very minuscule things in my four years, like being late. Now, no one really cares if you are late unless it is an insane amount of time. With my old principal, at some points I would know people to be scared of being in the hallway for half a minute too long, or saying something wrong around him. I love how free you can be in college, or even in the halls of my high school now, I am glad that they have a more relaxed environment now.

5. Asking to Leave Class

It is still hard to adjust in college to just being able to leave, whether it be to use the bathroom or if the professor is going over time and you have to get to another class. In high school it was a big deal that you had to have a pass to leave, or you had to ask and most of the time in my case they would not let you leave to use the bathroom, or even just get a drink of water.

6. Riding a School Bus

I did not ride in those yellow school buses that are all over the states, they were tour buses so they were more comfortable, but it was so early. The bus could just get so loud at times when it was after school and I had a headache from a long day, but the mornings most people just slept which was nice. I do not miss the bus because of how annoyed the drivers would get at people for just raising their voice a little, and not being terribly behaved on the bus.

7. Gym Class

Gym was a bad experience for everyone that was not a star athlete. There was just so much yelling and rules that were just ridiculous that were not needed. Gym was fun at times, but most of the time it was not even close to a good time, especially if the pacer test was involved. The worst was if you had gym in the morning and had to go about your day sweaty and tired.

High school was a great time, but I would not want to relive it again.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
