Well ladies and gents, it's that stressful time of the year where everyone is defensive and ready for a fight; election day. This Tuesday, everyone will be heading to the polls and voting for who they wish to be their next president. For some, their choice is obvious, while for others, it's disturbing and incredibly unappealing. While I'm sure you've all probably had your fair share of being bombarded with reasons of why you should vote, I'm here to give you a list of all the things you get to do AFTER you've voted.
1. You Get to BREATHE!
Yes, if you want to get very technical, we do already do this. But now you can do it without being in a panic. Get up and celebrate...the stress of voting is completely lifted! No more pestering on going out to vote, and no more campaigners coming to your door demanding to know your choices. You are liberated!...for the time being at least. So, take a big breath and relax!
2. You Get to Treat Yo' Self To Whatever You Want
You just voted in the most stressful and chaotic election cycle in our history. Why not give yourself some love? As Donna and Tom would say, "TREAT YO' SELF!" You want a massage? Do it! Some margaritas? Yes, please! A nap? Why are you still awake! The main point here is that you take time to give yourself a pat on the back, so don't waste it!
3. You Get To Not Talk About Hillary and Trump
Ah, remember life before Trump and Hillary? I do, and it was a glorious time! Now when you roll into class or work, you can feel the same way by simply stating "I voted! My duty as an American is complete!" While I'm certain that there will be individuals who will probe you for an answer, now you can simply approach those people with a "it's none of your business" attitude. Because really, it's no one's business who you vote for.
4. You Watch The Results Unfold (In a Safe Environment)
Okay, this activity isn't always the best...but allow me to offer a reason as to why it will be this election cycle. Since this one in particular has been very heated and rather violent in nature, you don't have to feel obligated to go out and socialize as the results are posted. That being said, why not hunker down in your pajamas with a bottle of wine? Or, if wine isn't your poison of choice, maybe some Ben & Jerry's? Either way, you get to watch from the comfort of your home, knowing that you did your part and that you can be you again.
5. You Get To Go On With Life
Let's face it, this election has been draining. For most of us, it has been the center of conversation of months, and it's done nothing but drain us mentally, physically, and emotionally. It's almost as if the nominees want you to forget what life was really like before they came along, because what good does that do them? Well, once you vote, you essentially get to be like Batman here and say, "Bye, Felicia! I've got stuff to do." After all, you really do have more important things to do than dwell on the past, or the current "drama." While it may be important "drama," it shouldn't stop you from living your life.
