The week has finally come! This Saturday we get to watch our MSU Bulldogs take the field against Southern Mississippi. I know everyone is beyond ecstatic. I know I am! So for the first timers in SEC football here's a little run down of the basis so you won't look completely lost when LSU comes here next week!
First big thing: You have to actually know who we are playing. Here in the South, SEC football is about as big as eating a lot and drinking beer. Everyone is going to know who we are playing. You should too. It's not hard to know either. You don't have to have the schedule memorized or plastered all over your desk. It's the 21st century, Google it. Be in the know. Trust me. You'd rather know anyways.
Second, if the Bulldogs are playing them that week, the opposition will be public enemy number 1. People are going to talk bad about them all week. Analyzing the opponents every play from their game last week will be the topic of many people around campus, if you don't like it then ignore it. Do not call anyone out about it. It might end with a thorough tongue lashing.
To add on to the second, Ole Miss is always an enemy. Never, ever say anything about them in a positive way. If you like them, then go there. We can't have any of that Hotty Toddy mess down here.
This is Bulldog Country!
To go off the hype of that last sentence, spirit will be everywhere on a Saturday game day. You will hear cowbells. EVERYWHERE! If this is a new thing, I would suggest investing in a good pair of earplugs because the bells will be ringing. And when I say everywhere I mean it. Walking down the street, in the Junction, Downtown, Cotton District. I promise the bell is somewhere. And if you don't know what it sounds like when thousands of bells are ringing at the same time, let me enlighten you:
One last big thing to keep you from looking like an unaware Yankee is to always cheer for STATE. HAIL STATE!! Yell it loud and proud. Ring your bell with confidence and yell at the top of your lungs. You want State to win. If they don't, it is not pretty. A good win from our Bulldogs makes the week a hundred times better. Down here, football is a way of life. There are going to be thousands of people in our tiny town trying to squish into the stadium to see the Dawgs hand out a good ass whooping'. They are all going to be here to see it. So cheer on our boys. We want the W!
