Today is November 9, 2016. Last night Donald J. Trump was announced as the winner of the 2016 Presidental election. Thus making him the 45th president of the United States. Well, if you're reading this it's probably November 15, but either way.
This morning I woke up and went on Facebook as a do most mornings I don't have classes. I was looking forward to the end of ruthless and disheartening political Facebook post. But I found myself seeing just the opposite. I saw posts about how to impeach the US president. I saw posts of people talking about leaving the country for Canada, not jokingly either. I saw people fearing for their life and safety.
I thought to myself, "What is this?" As many of you know, Trump will not be taking office until January. But people are already taking the time to expect the absolute worst of him as our president. He has yet to be given a chance to make changes, to do good and to improve our country as presidents do.
I want to say that I never openly aired my political views on Facebook. I never wore a "Make America Great Again" hat or a "I'm With Her" button. I always thought it was a lesser of two evils type situation. With that being said, I'm proud to be American. I consider myself lucky every day to group up in this country. If I did have a strong political opinion during this election and the electoral college votes went the other way, I wouldn't feel any differently about this country.
I'm sure as a Hilary supporter people are heartbroken their candiate didn't come out successful in this election. But I don't think that the outcome of the election should make anyone feel unsafe in the U.S. or feel like they should flee to another country.
With the ending of a White House era approaching, I think it's only appropriate that we continue to support Obama as he spends the last few months in the White House. And welcome our new president with open arms come January. I think it's important that we remain optimistic about the things the Trump will do once he takes office. We need to look on to the good he can potentially do for our country.
Now is the time to educate yourself. Educate yourself on his ideas, plans and potential policies. Educate yourself about his potential. Instead of bashing him, inform yourself about him. America's always been great, and it can only get greater from here. #MAGA
