I hate to be the one to break it to everyone, but in my eyes, weed is not harmless. I do think that it should be legal, and I also know that it is harmless. I am not an adult who has smoked weed maybe once in their lives, and has some unwarranted hatred towards it, I do not hate it, but I know how it can negatively affect your life from my own personal experiences. My junior year of high school I was high all the time, at any party or social outing I went to everyone would just look at me and laugh knowing I was out of my mind, and I am so embarrassed by that now.
People go around saying "weed is natural so it isn't bad for you," "weed is better than alcohol," "it's not addictive," and "it isn't a gateway drug," but in fact, all of these are wrong. Sure, it's a plant and it grows in nature, but so do shrooms as well as the bases for coke, meth and opiates. Obviously, these drugs are detrimental to someone's health and mindset, but these also grow in nature do they not? So, that argument is invalid, natural does not necessarily mean good for you.
Weed being better than alcohol is a matter of opinion. A lot of hardcore stoners rarely drink claiming that weed is better for them, but the hard truth is that neither are good for you. One isn't better than the other, they both have long and short-term effects on one's health and give you an immediate high or buzz.
The fact of the matter is that weed is addictive and weed is a gateway drug. No matter how much stoners will tell you differently, there is a reason that they have such a hard time quitting and without the constant use of marijuana they would not have started to dabble in acid, xanax, shrooms, or others. I have experienced this first-hand with many of my friends and know that these presumptions are completely inaccurate.
Some people do have the ability to smoke on a daily basis, and have their priorities stay intact, but for the other 99 percent of people smoking weed every single day is not a healthy lifestyle choice. I know now that weed only negatively affects me. It is addictive, it is a gateway drug, and it is not better than alcohol. I hate to be the one to say that all of these are misconceptions, but it is true.
