If you haven’t heard about it already, the Golden State Warriors are the 2015 NBA Champions. This great achievement was indeed a team effort, but it was led by 2014-15 NBA MVP Stephen Curry. My man Steph is not just an amazing player, but an inspiration.
Many schools didn’t believe in Curry’s abilities and skills because of his lack of size and strength, and passed up the opportunity to extend Curry a scholarship because of this. Davidson College, a school that had not won an NCAA tournament game since 1969 (at the time) was the school to offer Curry a full ride with a starting position on the men’s basketball team. There, he went on to shatter just about every record for shooting and points, all while leading his team to the Elite 8 during his sophomore year.
College Records
- All-time Davidson College leader in points (2,635); 3-point field goals (414); free throws (479); 30-point games (30); 40-point games (6)
- Single-season NCAA 3-point field goals (162, 2007–08)
- Single-season NCAA freshman 3-point field goals (122, 2006–07)
- Single-season Davidson College points (974); steals (86)
- Single-season Davidson College freshman points (730, 2006–07)
After three years at Davidson, Curry decided to finally enlist himself in the draft, being taken seventh overall in the 2009 NBA Draft by the Golden State Warriors. Once a Warrior, he began his reign of terror again, breaking countless NBA records and making a name for himself. You don’t get called “the best shooter of all time” unless you really deserve it.

Throughout all of these achievements, Steph has managed to keep a strong and healthy marriage with his wife, Ayesha, who he has known since adolescence. They have one very adorable daughter, Riley, who the world knows thanks to the post-game interviews she has been in, and are expecting another child soon. He even had his wife’s initials tattooed on his ring finger, because he cannot play games without his wedding ring. That one just killed me. The man is perfect, both on the court, and off.
If Stephen Curry has taught me anything, it is to always strive to be better, to never listen to anyone who tries to put you down, and to love others with a big heart. The MVP and reigning NBA champion deserves it all, and this is coming from a Lakers fan.
