Why do people hurt others when we know what hurt feels like? Recently I’ve gone through a series of events that I have both seen and experienced hurt. There are so many ways one can hurt another but when you get down to it, hurt is hurt. The intention is to make someone feel pain, possibly to make someone understand your pain. Or maybe it was unintentional but because of that careless thinking it caused more pain. When are we all going to realize that we, as humans, are all one. Will there finally be a day when we can truly love?
I think it’s amazing that we have emotions like no other kind of species. I look at this world and can see that this is an amazing world to be a part of. People amaze me all the time with there acts of kindness and selflessness. I see people who barely have anything, happily give what they can to someone who has more than them. I’m starting to believe the less and the simpler life you have, the happier you are.
Currently, I’m taking a psychology class this summer that has covered the story about a small town with no technology or electricity in a third world country. The family in this town decides to sell one of their yacks to buy a television. In the end once they’ve got their television, it did not bring the happiness they expected to get. Real life human interaction can make the biggest difference in the world.
Just how love affects the world so powerfully, so does hatred. Sometimes it may even appear that hatred can overrule love because the news likes to dwell on the negative 90% of the time. It’s so easy to focus on the negative as my sophomore year I battled on not letting events get the best of me. As it appeared that my world was shattering around me, I let my emotions go down with it. I was so wrapped up on how the world can be so messed up, that I didn’t look at the amazing people and things I had.
We definitely need to acknowledge the wrong in the world so we can improve on making it the best place we can be. What constantly comes to mind as I’m talking about hatred is the Orlando nightclub shooting. It doesn’t make sense that people died because those victims and everyone in that club were strong enough to be who they are. It isn’t fair that a gun can take out a group of people in seconds without reason. Out of everything in the world, those victims were the ones who built a path to a loving world.
So why do people hurt others when we know what hurt feels like? I have no idea. The world is like the ocean, you never know what’s out there. What is beautiful about the world is that we all wake up everyday with a choice. So let’s choose love first.
