I've been called shallow and told that I expect too much when I describe the type of guy I want to be with.

I think it's super hypocritical that guys can say the type of girl they want and not take any crap for it, but the second a girl says she wants a guy that's tall and has an athletic build, we're shallow and asking for too much.

I've always been the type of girl who knows the kind of guy she wants and I'm not afraid to say that I'm the "superficial" girl who wants her boyfriend to look good, so sue me.

I've always had a type that I've been attracted to and as I got older, my taste has changed. I used to want to only date athletes because I grew up around them since my dad was a football, basketball, track, and golf coach. Now, I just want someone who is healthy and doesn't mind going to the gym to keep in shape every now and then. Since I was fairly taller than most guys when I was younger, I wanted to only date guys who were either as tall as I was or taller — when I turned 16 and stopped growing and suddenly every guy I've ever known grew like a beanstalk, I was only attracted to guys over 6 feet tall (I'll settle for 5'10" or 5'11" for the most part).

I want a guy who can dress up when it's time to go out. Someone who cleans up nicely takes the icing on the cake. I have high standards, what can I say.

I want someone who favors skincare and personal grooming. Why would I not want someone who takes care of himself? If men expect that of me as a woman, why can't I expect that of a man? It's not asking too much to maintain yourself and look good. You can be a bum in the privacy of your own home because I do that, but as soon as I have somewhere to go, I feel pressured to look decent so I won't be judged or looked at the wrong way. That's not fair.

So yeah, call me shallow or say I'm asking for too much, but I know I'm pretty enough to be with someone who compliments me and I can compliment him.
