One night, I was bored and looking around on the internet. I stumbled across a website that had a list of every holiday that occurs during the year. Looking through the list, I was shocked at some of the strange holidays I found. I went through and picked two from each month that you probably haven’t heard of. Look through these wacky holidays and decide which you want to celebrate!
1. January 4th: National Spaghetti Day
It’s estimated that Americans eat an average of 20 pounds of pasta per year. So, every year on January 4th, the tasty Italian dish is celebrated. Whether you feel like preparing a huge meal or just making a small bowl of the delicious pasta, enjoy the holiday!
2. January 14th: Dress Up Your Pet Day
This holiday gives you the perfect opportunity to put your pet into an adorable sweater. Maybe I’ll even be able to convince my boyfriend to finally let me go out and buy something for our black lab pup just for this holiday.
3. February 3rd: Feed The Birds Day
Surviving a long, cold winter on only a hidden stash of food can be extremely difficult for wild birds. You can help them out by putting some seeds in a bird feeder.
4. February 24th: National Tortilla Chip Day
Whether you prefer to eat them with salsa or nacho cheese, tortilla chips are a popular snack in America. The Mexican treat just became popular a few decades ago, but today you can celebrate by picking up a family-sized bag at nearly any convenience store.
5. March 10th: Middle Name Pride Day
If you have a middle name, it’s probably special to you. Personally, my middle name is in honor of my Grandmother. I think it’s awesome that there’s a day especially for honoring that name.
6. March 30th: National Doctor’s Day
Even though you may not love going to the doctor’s office, you should still appreciate the work that your doctor does for you. Celebrate this holiday by calling your doctor to say thanks or watching Grey’s Anatomy all day!
7. April 7th: No Housework Day
Take a day to do whatever you want, except housework. With all the spring cleaning you’ve probably been doing, you deserve a break!
8. April 17th: Blah, Blah, Blah Day
This holiday is unusual. It’s a day dedicated to finishing all your lengthy to-do lists. So, get to it and check those chores off your list!
9. May 6th: No Diet Day
Are you on a diet? Here’s an automatic cheat day! This holiday encourages you to appreciate the body that you have instead of criticizing and trying to change it.
10. May 31st: World No Tobacco Day
Have the bad habit of smoking or using tobacco products? Here’s a perfect day to quit. Take this day to learn about the harmful and addictive qualities of tobacco.
11. June 4th: Hug Your Cat Day
Curl up next to your adorable cat and give them a hug! If you don’t own a cat, borrow a friend’s or go out and adopt your own! The month of June is actually also “Adopt A Cat Month”.
12. June 19th: National Kissing Day
Spend this holiday appreciating your special someone. Go ahead and give them a long, romantic kiss and tell them how much they mean to you.
13. July 13th: Embrace Your Geekiness Day
Know someone who is ridiculously smart? Let them know that they’re awesome and tell them to embrace their inner geek!
14. July 23rd: National Hot Dog Day
Looks like your dinner decision just got easier on this holiday! Have a barbecue and prepare one of America’s favorite meals – the hotdog!
15. August 3rd: National Watermelon Day
Watermelons are definitely one of the most popular – and best – fruits. Go out and have a picnic with friends to celebrate this delicious holiday!
16. August 10th: National S’mores Day
A bonfire just isn’t complete without a sweet, gooey s’more. Spend this holiday gathered around a fire with people you love eating the sweet treat!
17. September 16th: Collect Rocks Day
I’m not going to lie, I wish I knew about this holiday as a kid. I, and a lot of other kids that I knew loved to wander the neighborhood and collect all of the “cool” rocks we could find.
18. September 21st: Miniature Golf Day
Whether you’re seven or seventy, everyone can love miniature golf! Get the family together and take a trip to your local course for a day full of fun!
19. October 16th: Bosses Day
You may not always love your boss, but you should use this holiday to appreciate all of their hard work.
20. October 28th: Plush Animal Lover’s Day
This silly holiday gives you a chance to bring up that old box of stuffed animals from the basement. Spend your day surrounded by the cute, furry animals and think about your childhood memories with them!
21. November 16th: National Fast Food Day
Fast food is very common in America because of the fast-paced lives we live. Take this day to enjoy your favorite meal from a fast food restaurant!
22. November 21st: World Hello Day
Promote peace by saying “hello” to a few strangers. Who knows, it might just make their day!
23. December 7th: Letter Writing Day
Take the time to sit down and write out a letter to a friend or family member. Letters are often much more heartfelt and meaningful than a simple text message. Plus, who doesn’t love getting a letter in the mail?
24. December 17th: National Maple Syrup Day
Whether you prefer pancakes or waffles, eat a big breakfast on this holiday! Make sure to top your cakes with some sweet maple syrup!
