February is a month that tends to give people mixed emotions, depending on whether or not they are in a relationship. If you’re single, Valentine’s Day just seems like a slap in the face in the middle of cold, grey, winter. I haven’t always been the girl with a boyfriend on Valentine’s Day and trust me, I’ve had bad Valentine’s Days before, but I think it’s a great holiday.

I know, I know, you probably want to chuck a heart-shaped box of chocolates in my face right now if you’re currently in the midst of a messy breakup, but hear me out.

Valentine’s Day is for everyone.

It’s not just for couples. Do you remember how excited you used to get when you were in elementary school and everyone brought their shoebox covered in pink construction paper and red hearts to school and everyone in your class gave you a piece of candy? Those were the days. Your little 8-year-old self didn’t care that you were single because all you cared about was how many packs of FunDip you got in your box. Why don't we still get that hyped about sugar?

Throughout the years, I don’t think I ever outgrew my elementary school Valentine’s Day self. I love holidays. I live for holidays. Growing up, my mom decorated our house for every single holiday, not just the big ones like Christmas and Easter, I’m talking St. Patrick’s Day, Memorial Day, Halloween, and of course, Valentine’s Day.

I just get so excited about every holiday, and frankly, February is a terrible month and the one good thing we have in it is a single holiday, but it seems like 50% of the population hates it.

Come on, guys. This is all we’ve got to make the bleakest month of the year a little more joyous.

Valentine’s Day isn’t just for couples. It’s about celebrating love. You don’t have to be in a relationship to love others, you can love your family, your friends, your pets... just cheer up a little.

If you’re single, there’s no reason why you can’t make cute Valentine's Day desserts and watch romcoms with your roommate. That doesn’t sound like a bad night. Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be a bitter reminder that you’re single, it should be a day that you stop and appreciate all the people that you love.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
