It might not be September 22 yet, but summer is pretty much over. For some, that means the beginning of the school year, for others it means work picking up again; either way, schedules are becoming hectic, and we find ourselves packing more into the week than we could've ever imagined doing, when it was summer.
I am much more productive during the year than I am when I have free time from work, June through August. School's scheduled regime keeps me grounded, provides structure, whereas my off time was spent watching re-runs of "The Office." Regardless of the hours I needed to fill with some sort of substance, I turned away from any task that needed to be done; it was all too overwhelming.
You never know what you can handle until you're immersed in responsibilities. Perhaps this is why--or maybe how--I keep hearing about upcoming poetry events, more so than I have in the past few months. Everyone is getting back to the swing of things. And what better way is there, than experiencing current influences?
Here is a list of upcoming poetry events in New York City, featuring excerpts from work of each poet.

As you can see, the rest of September and October are packed with events; if you can't make it to one, try the next--although each reading will be completely different, since there are no repeating artists. If you haven't yet, watch the videos and click the links to read their work. You'll see what I mean--you won't want to miss out!
