The Unspoken Thank You's To My Best Friend

Even though I could never say it enough, thank you for being there.

The Unspoken Thank You's To My Best Friend
Farrah Matthews

Best friends... of course they don’t expect you to say thank you for all these little things but that makes them an even better best friend right? I don’t think about it when it happens but I am so thankful for all you do for me. Here are all the times "thank you" went unspoken:

1. Thank you for being honest with me.

All those times I had something on my face or stuck in my teeth, you didn’t let me walk around like an idiot. And make-up lines are your pet peeve so those always get pointed out too. You let me know when I need to chill and stop being crazy and I don’t know what I would do without that.

2. Thank you for keeping me grounded.

I have a bad habit of getting in my own head. I always assume the worst and you can always lighten the mood.

3. Thank you for breaking your diet for me.

“Wanna go get pizza?” The answer is always yes. Eating Little Ceasars in the car and talking about life makes everything better. Thank you for not letting me get fat alone.

4. Thank you for motivating me.

You make me go to the gym even when I don’t want to and I do the same for you. I wouldn’t get anything done without my spotter. Thanks for always being there.

5. Thank you for listening.

My life could be a TV show, I know you don’t know my brother’s ex-wife’s brother, but thank you for pretending to care anyways. We definitely don’t see eye to eye on a lot of things, but thank you for listening to my rants anyways.

6. Thank you for not letting me do stupid things alone.

I don’t let you sneak into concerts alone and I know you would do the same. We probably shouldn’t try that again though…

7. Thank you for being my substitute date.

Like that one time I got dumped the night before one of my friend’s wedding and I couldn’t go single and alone. Plus, now we are tagged in a bunch of embarrassing dancing photos on Facebook. That deserves a huge thank you and I’m sorry.

8. Thank you for getting me out of sticky situations.

I know I can always count on you to call me fake-freaking out to get me out of those awkward first dates. And I’d much rather go for a run with you than be on that date.

9. Thank you for picking me up when I get down.

You’re terrible at telling jokes but they are so bad, they are funny. I am grateful for your terrible jokes.

10. Thank you for washing the dishes.

I am a clean freak and you know it. So, when I protest to wash dishes because nobody else will, thank you for carrying that burden for a little while.

11. Thank you for disliking the same people.

Even though you have no reason to not like my ex-boyfriend’s ex-girlfriend, thank you for not liking her with me.

12. Thank you for making me get out of my comfort zone.

I am kind of a homebody and I would much rather spend the night watching Netflix. But I have to admit, I have some pretty great memories from you dragging me out of the apartment.

13. Thank you for reminding me what is important.

Really, it’s the little things. I so appreciate the Bible verses I receive and the inspiring Facebook article. When I struggle, I just remember you telling me, “this is all temporary” and it gets me through.

14. Thank you for being a bad singer.

I don’t feel near as bad about my loud car singing when I am with you. Even though we suck at singing, we got some pretty bomb car dancing skills.

15. Thank you for reading my mind.

We can just make eye contact and burst into laughter or that look that means you have to tell me something later.

16. Thank you for being happy for me.

Even though you may not agree with what I am doing, you will still be happy for me when I am happy.

17. Thank you for just getting me.

It’s not too late to send your best friend that thank you for all the little things they’ve been doing for you.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
