Every once in a while a girl exists, who is different. I mean, sincerely different. Take note of what she does in her free time. Reading, writing, listening to symphonies, etc.
If she reads, good luck to you, sir. I am not talking about the “read The Notebook once” kind of girl. I’m talking about the girl who cries into the pages of Hemingway. The girl who blushes at the crude rawness of Bukowski. I say good luck, because whether or not she realizes it, she’s going to compare you to every man she has read about. You may think you’re sophisticated enough for her, but have you ever sat at a typewriter and bled, a fifth of bourbon by your side? No? That’s too bad; Hemingway has. Another thing about a girl who reads is that she has 100 million scenarios made up in her head, often fueled by self induced anxiety. She has lived a thousand lives within her books. This is where you are going to have trouble… will you be able to give her a thousand more, through loving her?
If she writes, she is going to be an open book, although very difficult to read. Imagine reading Tolstoy in the 4th grade, difficult. Words will flow from her heart to her paper, and there will always be a source of inspiration. Are you man enough to take it when she writes of heartbreak with you as her muse? If you can, then you deserve to be there to inspire her words of happiness. Be prepared to be the first thing on her mind when she stumbles upon a quote that strikes a chord within her.
If she appreciates classical music, or even plays an instrument, you might be in trouble (but only if she is passionate about it). You see chances are, she is going to be a perfectionist. She will sit hunched at her piano until the notes and keys flow as smooth and constant as the blood in her veins. If she cannot get something down, a rage will ensue, and it might do you well to fix her a cup of tea and take cover. She will either perform perfectly, or not at all. She will love you in this same way.
Now that you know what to be careful of, I will explain to you what you can expect from her. She is going to love you as deeply as she loves every character whose life she has lived, or has lost. She is going to love you as if you are the pen between her heart and the pages of her tattered moleskin. Something else to keep in mind; she is going to have walls that you quite frankly may never break through. The reason why she throws herself into all of the above, is most likely because somebody broke her heart and she quickly realized that a book, a piano, her mindless scribbles…they will never leave her side. If you aren’t going to be all in, do her a solid and leave before she becomes attached. No matter how many times she is reduced to ashes, she will rise again with the same amount of love in her heart, maybe even more. Don’t you dare waste that love. Don’t you dare waste who she is and what she is willing to give to you when she has given so much to the wrong people. Do not waste her.
