9 Perks of Dating the Artsy Girl

I’ve recently come to realize something very interesting. You know how some girls gravitate towards the athletes, the nerds, the workaholics, the military men or the “bad boys"? Well, men also gravitate towards a type of girl who they best relate to, or who most effectively captures their attention. But what happened to appreciation for the artsy girls? The painters, chefs, drawers, graphic designers, musicians, singers, actresses, cosmetologists, interior designers, writers, tattoo artists, fashionistas, photographers, dancers or sculptors? For the fellas looking for their diamond in the rough, here’s 9 perks of dating the artsy girl:

1. She's not afraid to express herself.

This is a girl who will always speak her mind. She won’t sugar coat it, hide it, dramatize it or over-exemplify it. She won’t care what others think of her, and any opinions degrading herself or her work won’t even break through her surface. She loves what she does, who she is, and who she is striving to become. You will be never go unloved, for she will always tell you. And more importantly, she’ll make an effort to show you.

2. She tackles every issue with creative solutions.

If you want to remodel the bathroom, you better believe she’ll have a million pins saved on Pinterest with concepts that you could implement! She is the perfect definition of someone who thinks outside the box, and isn’t afraid to show that side of her.

3. She is fearless when it comes to trying new things.

Repaint the living room? She’s game. Take a pottery class on Tuesday nights? She’ll be there. Take a road trip and hit every aquarium, museum, art gallery and national park on the way? You won’t have to ask her twice.

4. She is selfless and aims to please others before herself.

She will cook you dinner and forget to feed herself. She will skip her meeting and pick you up from the airport. She will spend her savings on supplies for making you the perfect gift. She’s the girl who will do things just because she loves you.

5. She is nonjudgemental and finds appreciation for all.

Your girl will walk down the street and nod when you point out the lady with bold makeup, the man with the edgiest haircut, and the new sculpture that depicts a naked human. She won’t tell you your opinions are wrong, or disagree with you, and will make no comparisons. Instead, your girl will tell you the girl with the bold makeup has the bravery she wished she had. She will tell you the man with the mohawk is crying for attention, and wished she could be his friend. And the new sculpture will be praised for its detail and elements of design. She sees no harm in their existence, and knows that they are the way that they are for a reason. She forever applauds their separation from the norm.

6. Everyday is a new adventure.

In her eyes, every day is a new start. If life were a book, and years were chapters, then days would be pages. Books are boring without adventure, heartbreak, love, plot twists or exciting events. She’s craves to try new things, learn new skills, visit new places and experience new experiences. What better way to let her do that than with you by her side?

7. She values true beauty.

Artsy girls value meaning, which doesn’t always go hand-in-hand with physical beauty. They analyze someone or something’s worth, purpose and their place in the world. Your girl would be no different. She would love someone for them, and wrap anyone in a hug who felt unloved or unappreciated by their family or peers. Disclaimer: This is the girl who not only will love every single cute ball of fur at the animal shelter, but will also beg you to adopt the snaggle-toothed, rat-tailed, mutt that had been there the longest. She looks into its eyes and sees its soul, its past and its emotions, and with that alone she can grasp its longing to have a forever home.

8. She’s independent and a go-getter.

You will never have to remind your girl to get ready for work, to finish her project on time or go apply for a job. She is bubbly and everyone wants to be around her. She may not always be understood by those she encounters, but they can appreciate her for the person she is. She’s true to herself, doesn’t expect handouts, and she’s especially driven to succeed and make a difference.

9. She’s lived and learned.

Most of all, she’s the person she is today because of who she was yesterday. She’s not perfect, but who is? She makes mistakes, she learns from them, and she strives to get it right the next time. If she messes up her choreography, the recipe, hair color, script or sings in the wrong key, you can rest easily knowing she’s got it down for next time. She applies life lessons in her work, and wants others to relate to what she’s expressing. She may not be old, but she’s wiser than most.

Don't settle for less when you can be with a girl who has the most to offer.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
