- Clean your surrounding area
I’ve found that if the area around me is messy, I feel like my mind is messy. Around the time of finals, I super clean my room so that it is as clean as possible. It helps me to get my thoughts in order if the area around me is in order.
Organize!
If you have containers, use them! Any kind of organizational tools are awesome. If everything is organized, it won’t take you as long to get ready and find things, which means less stress!
Sweep, mop, and wipe everything down!
Get all that dust and dirt out of the corners of your room and the corners of your mind! If you use good smelling cleaners too, you’ll be left feeling fresh.
2. Plan ahead, and write down your schedule
I’ve found it helpful to write my schedules down on a calendar. It allows me to get that all out of my head and recorded.
Are you a visual person?
Use a calendar or a wipe off board! If you aren’t, make notes.
Color code!
Color coding is great because it can help you distinguish things from one another.
Sync your electronic devices!
It’s helpful to have your schedule not only on paper, but also on whatever electronic devices you use frequently. It will help you know when something is happening!
3. Journal
Journaling can help to get all your thoughts down on paper. Once you get your schedule all worked out, as mentioned in step two, it is important to get all your feelings and thoughts down too.
Anything can work as a journal
You can use a piece of paper, a lined notebook, or a fancy journal
Smooth pens!
I always like my pens to write really smoothly. It allows me to feel as if my thoughts are being put from my mind to paper seamlessly.
4. Take a nap
Remember when you were a kid and didn’t want to take a nap? I often find myself wishing my day had some nap time built in. Even if you can find time to fully fall asleep, take some time every day to relax a little.
Mindfulness:
Mindfulness meditation is taking a little bit of time to examine your mind. Sit down, close your eyes, and focus on your breathing and all the good things about that day. You can find articles of mindfulness and even YouTube videos that walks you through it!
5. Take a walk
I like to take walks when I feel myself getting overwhelmed. Taking a walk can give you time to think.
6. Do something fun
Do something you enjoy! If you don’t take time to do something you enjoy doing, you have a better chance of feeling like all your responsibilities are piling up and it can be overwhelming! Take time to do something you love doing.
