Gift giving. What is supposed to inspire joy and warm fuzzies often instills dread in the hearts of boyfriends, wives, siblings, and friends everywhere who are tasked with the chore of buying a gift for the important people in their lives. Although I am no expert on the subject, here is a list of 10 simple items you can personalize to your own liking and get for those you care about.
1. Wallet
A classic gift. Especially for those approaching adulthood, where it is good form to have a nice wallet (not a velcro one you got in elementary school, sorry).
2. Watch
The ultimate classy gift. Depending on how nice it is, it’s a pretty significant gift that shows your significant other or loved one that you’re committed and here to stay, AND you care about them being on time for things!

3. Leather jacket
It doesn’t have to necessarily be leather, but a cool, not-often-thought-of (expensive, too, if you’re going for that) gift to get someone is a nice jacket. It is timeless and you’ll be thought of every time they wear it!
4. Necklace
Ugh romance. Probably one of the safest gifts a guy can give a girl. Bonus points if it’s Kendra Scott, just sayin.
5. Handmade painting/painted object (ie. mug, etc.)
This has been kept vague on purpose… use your imagination! For all the artsy people out there, it’s always cool to go to Mad Potter or another ceramic painting place and make something cool and personalized for your special someone.
6. An expensive candle
Candles are good adult gifts. Good for apartments and homes alike, candles are easy and show that you are, in fact, classy and grown-up af. And truthfully they don’t have to be that expensive-- they just ooze good taste and cache value.
7. Handpainted frame with picture in it
This is one of the easiest gifts to put together. Honestly, the frame doesn’t even have to be painted or handmade. As long as there is a cute picture in the frame, it will mean a lot to whoever you’re giving it to.
Try this:
8. Scrapbook
Although I’ve been told this is a “girly” gift, I’ve never met someone who didn’t enjoy a good scrapbook. It’s the best gift for your parents or a friend you’ve known for a while who you’ve taken a lot of pictures with.
9. A really nice blanket
Blankets are an underappreciated mom gift. A nice throw blanket or a fun soft fleece blanket are casual gifts that you KNOW will be used frequently this time of year.
Good place to start:
10. An inside joke
My favorite gift to give (and receive). Something that has hidden meaning to you and the person who gave it to you, only. There are so many ways to go about this, and it is very personal. That gift will always mean something more than just a gift to that person, whether it’s joke-funny or more serious.
A personal favorite from a great friend of mine for those who know of our obsession with Ryan Lochte and my love of pink (circa 2012):
