The Ugly Truth From A Girl's Point Of View

Because being a girl isn't always pretty.

Whoever said that girls are just sugar, spice, and everything nice clearly hasn't seen someone that can hold their own ground and stand up to anything. Who is to say that men and women can't do the same thing? If I want to hang with the boys, watch sports, and drink beer, I will do that with great pleasure. If you can't accept the fact that I can do exactly what you do, chances are we won't work out.

The stereotype of men and women are that men are concerned with the physical appearance, and women are concerned with personality, is also false. As a girl, I like to look at the pretty things to and I have some standards that have to be met. I'm not asking for the world, but I am asking for you to at least not be a complete caveman. The ugly truth is...Girls have standards.

Standard 1: If you're talking to more than one girl...

If you are talking to more than one girl, it doesn't make you look cool and it doesn't make you an all mighty alpha male. It makes you weak. Yeah, I'll admit, I have had interests in pursuing different men, but I have not actively strung them along. I want something that is more than just a one night stand or something temporary. I'm growing up and I want to explore the possibilities of something substantial. If I find out you are talking, dating, or hooking up with multiple women at the same time, your interests aren't in sync with mine. Head to the back of the line.

Standard 2: If you're not over your ex....

If you still think about her and post pictures to make her jealous, please get as far away as possible. Girls don't want to be anybody's rebound, second choice, or source of revenge. The girl wants to be the one and only in every relationship. It breaks our trust with you and makes us feel like you aren't dating us for the right reasons.

Standard 3: If my family and friends do not like you...

You're out. Do not pass Go. Do not collect $200. My family and friends were there before you were and will be there when you're gone. They have my best interests at heart, so if they say something is wrong, I'm going to listen.

Standard 4: If you don't have any goals...

Granted, I don't have my life completely together; however, I know generally what I want out of life. One of the best qualities in a guy is them knowing what they want. What are you majoring in? What are you going to do when you grow up? Do you want a relationship? Do you have any answers for me?

Standard 5: If you only text me in the middle of the night...

Bye. I'm not a booty call. I'm a person. Saying "Yeah I'm just in bed....alone." is not going to make me come see you. Or if I say I just got out of the shower and you say "Oh, without me?", I'm not taking another shower. Just stop.

Standard 6: If you can't take care of yourself...

If you aren't capable of regularly bathing and looking presentable, I can't be seen with you in public. I'm not saying be a fashionista, but at least look like you spent more than 5 mins preparing for the day.

Standard 7: If you can't act your age...

You're in college, you're an adult, and you should be taking responsibility. I like a good drink myself, but I know my limits...sometimes. If you are getting drunk only on the days ending in "y" you probably aren't going to make the cut. Go to class, pass the class, lock it up.

Standard 8: If you get jealous easily...

It's flattering at first, but screaming until your red in the face is not going to make me leave my friends behind. If you get jealous over every little thing, it truly shows how immature you really are. There's a fine line between protective and full on crazy. Learn it.

Standard 9: If you can't give me some space...

I'm not trying to be with you every second of every day. That's not my style or anybody else's for that matter. Time away from each other is healthy for a successful relationship so if it takes me more than 3 minutes to text you back, get over it.

Standard 10: If you can't discuss your problems like an adult...

Yelling at me and throwing things is something my two year old cousin does when he's hungry, not what you should be doing as a grown man. Talking about problems is a much better solution than screaming about them. So if you have anger issues, there's the door.

These standards are pretty general for most girls. Gentlemen, you will be hard pressed to find a girl who doesn't have at least three of these standards. Some of these standards come off a bit harsh, but they are really solid facts.

Behind every pretty face, is a not so pretty story. Every girl has had their heart ripped apart at least once. We will do almost anything to ensure that it doesn't happen again. Waking up feeling like you've been shot in the chest is not a fond memory any woman has. Every guy tells you that he's "different" and "won't hurt you", but it always ends up the same way.

The moral of the story is girls will always have their guard up. Be the guy that breaks down their walls, makes them feel special, and loves them for who they are. Everyone is a little crazy, so you just have to find the kind of crazy that works with yours.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
