Every time I get into someone else's car, I find great comfort in knowing that they are a completely different person than myself. Different lifestyle, different experiences, different everything. So, the fact that I am allowing myself to trust them enough to drive me around is kind of a crazy idea.

I have met some really kind people getting into Ubers and Lyft's that have just made me admire them, being simply another person in the world.

Here's this: think about all the bad things you hear on the news caused from taxi drivers, Uber drivers or the passengers in the car… Now, this probably doesn't make you feel better about taking them, but we still do it anyway, right? We sometimes have to. That's why they're there and it is also why background checks exist. So we have to learn how to trust and be trustworthy. The way I see it, it's all community service. You are doing this for money, of course, but that means you are constantly devoting your time to someone else's needs. The destination. You don't get to choose it, they expect you to take them where they need to go.

I took an Uber one time while in college and the man that picked me up had such a heavy but incredibly fascinating accent. I asked him where he was from and he told me he is from South Africa; born and raised. I began to tell him how I want to eventually visit there, explore, meet the people, take photos, etc and with my response, he was never happier. He said, "Do it before it's too late! Take your photos, write about it, travel as much as you can." This man didn't even know me and only a few minutes into the ride he was sharing with me his life story and why he became an Uber driver and I loved it. It honestly inspired me. It's exciting to meet new people. He waved goodbye and said he hopes to drive me again.

I want to become an Uber driver because I am IN LOVE with driving. I drive everywhere, all the time, every. single. day. If I am bored I will go drive around and just explore places. Now, I know this is probably horrible for the environment, but I get such joy and calmness from driving, it's something I feel I need to do. I think I just like being in control, but I also like to drive people around so they don't have to. If/When I become an Uber driver, I think it will allow me to become more comfortable talking to more people and really allowing others to trust me, even if it's for a short amount of time. I can work when I need to and I am a friendly person. I think just the satisfaction of driving people from one place to another would be fun. I think over time, I will meet a lot of different people and really learn to understand people and how they act.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
