Back in middle school, I remember I used to love reading. I would look forward to the days that I was able to go to a book store and I was excited to pick out my next read. I remember spending countless hours excited to be finishing my book and neglecting my homework (sorry, mom).
As the years went by, I began to not have as much time to read for my own pleasure. As high school came around, the time that I would have to myself to be able to read was taken up by things that I had to read for homework and class. Don't get me wrong, I liked reading, but there is a fine line between reading something I wanted to read versus something that was assigned to me to read.
There's something special about being able to get lost in the world of a book. Reading gives me the ability to stop what is going on around me and just dive into a whole new world (no pun intended, Aladdin).
Now that I am in college and an EWM major, there are so many classes which require reading cover to cover books, or just really long texts. As I mentioned before, some of the reading isn't my cup of tea exactly, but I still end up learning something that I didn't know before. As a college student, I have a little more free time since I don't have six classes every day, five days a week. Now I have more time to myself, especially now that it's summer.
While reading may not be everyone's favorite thing to do, there really is something out there for everyone. There are books on astrology, history, DIY's, and so much more. All you have to do is take a trip to your local bookstore. One of the great things about book stores is that you're able to read parts of the book to see if it's something that you're interested in! Also, most of the time, they also have a cafe where you can order your favorite coffee along with some pastries.
Give reading a try, you may be surprised by what you find or what you learn. Remember, there's something for everyone! You just have to look hard enough.
