"Stars can't shine without the darkness"
So many people assume that when someone has depression they are sad all the time, hate everything, and that they all want to died. But really get into the mind of someone that is depressed. Yes, do thoughts go through some of these peoples' minds? Yes. But don't assume.
Someone could have a huge smile on their face for the world to see and laugh and have all these good times with friends, but in the end go home and stay up all night questioning everything. And, when I say everything, I mean everything.
"I get lost inside of my own mind"
And it is not that you don't want to be alive, because I know I always want to be here with my friends and family. But, when it hits you, it gives you negative ideas about yourself—you aren't good enough, you aren't pretty enough, and you just seem to be a burden on everyone including yourself. It's hard to convince yourself otherwise. Some have it so bad they self-harm or try/succeed at committing suicide. This isn't a mental illness you want to have to relate to Tumblr posts or as a way to have boys just to like you. It is a serious problem that hurts a lot of people. It doesn't just hurt those with it, but it hurts those closest to them.
If you are diagnosed with depression, you are not alone! There are others in your place and there are those who can help. Tell someone you need help when you need it. I myself went for so long not wanting to admit how bad it had gotten until I found the perfect person to talk to that made me feel comfortable to be sad. They helped give me the positive mindset I needed to genuinely feel happy, and that is one of the best feelings I could ask for.
Here are some quotes that helped me:
"No one can make you feel inferior without your consent"
"The strongest people make time for others, even when they are struggling with their own demons."
And one of my favorites that I have hanging in my dorm room;
H.O.P.E.= Hold On, Pain Ends....
