Donald Trump’s success in the GOP presidential run has defied conventional political wisdom. With only four percent of the vote when he first started,
Trump has exceeded everyone’s expectations, currently becoming the Republican
front runner. The fifth GOP
debate/first post-national debate poll shows Donald Trump dominating the republican field with 36 percent of the vote. Amid all the racist, xenophobic and
discriminatory comments made by the republican candidate, he continues
to rise in the polls. Shakespeare once wrote, “Though this be madness, yet
there is method in’t.” Donald Trump's campaign may appear to be madness, but it does
have very effective tactics behind it – tactics that helps him surge in the
polls. Below are some tactics employed by Donald Trump.
Drawing and keeping the attention of the media
Trump gets the attention of the media 24/7, virtually starving the other candidates out of the limelight. His comments are so outrageous that the media gives him the attention he craves, which increases ratings, increasing his appearance, making him better-known. The media spends so much time on Trump's statements and comments that other candidates such as Rand Paul, Carly Fiorina and John Kasich fall to the side. No one knows the whereabouts of these candidates until the national debate. Trump is a ratings machine and the cameras love him!
Appealing to the emotions of American people
People are angry and scared about the recent violence in our nation and the world: the mass shootings and the terrorist attacks including those in San Bernardino and Paris. People are looking for someone they believe will make an absolute change, despite how absurd this idea of change is.
Trump is the ultimate outsider
According to a recent poll, three in four Americans believe there is widespread corruption in the United States Government. People believe it is time for change brought about by a person not involved in politics since they would institute the right type of change. People want an avenger; someone to blow up the American government and redirect it into making America great again. Since Donald is a business man, not a politician, he appeals to those people.
