Donald Trump is going to be the president of the United States of America come January when he is sworn in. I can only remember a few election years, as I am still young, but never in my years, or that of the past couple generations has anything this insane happened. The American people have elected a jackass, no ifs, ands, or buts. His ego and stubbornness blind him from what is really needed by this country. The only thing I can agree with from this election is that change from career politicians could be beneficial. But, not this fool.
His rhetoric is hateful and has struck fear into the hearts of many. He is pushing movements against the LGBTQ community, as well as against women. This doesn’t even include his hatred for Muslims or Mexicans. The LGBTQ community has only recently gained the right to marry, and have thus finally been able to feel safer as they have found support, as well as basic freedom. This freedom is under attack now, as well as the freedom and rights women hold, of simply being women, in control of their own minds and bodies.
The Trump campaign vows to end funding to Planned Parenthood and make abortions illegal. I’m not for abortions in my personal life. If I impregnate a girl; I’d want the child to be born, but ultimately it is her choice. I can choose to be upset or mad, but by not being the pregnant person, I have no real right to make a final decision for her. This policy goes for everyone, male or female. No one, except the individual, should have the right to control a decision. America is supposed to be the land of the free, and yet, Trump wants to eradicate freedoms from a majority of the American people. Women under Trump also lose the freedom of choosing if anyone can, “grab her by the pussy.”
Now, abortion is only a part of the argument. In the end, it should be left out of political agendas, but we live in an argumentative and selfish world that uses religion to strike fear into people, as well as start wars: sigh. Planned Parenthood offers women medical help other than abortions. Women can go to these facilities and receive cancer screens, birth control, and encompassing reproductive benefits. So, not only is the Trump organization attempting to control a woman’s body by forcing her through pregnancies, they are also attempting to take away medical care. The only argument that ever seems to be used against birth control is the religious agenda. However, church and state are to be separated as stated by Thomas Jefferson, "I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should 'make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof,' thus building a wall of separation between Church & State". So tell me how Abortion, birth control and women’s reproductive health, or the LGBTQ community have any traction in the political realm of our pathetic society.
To combat the Trump regime, women are calling for each other to go and get an IUD, which is a birth control that can last at least 5 years, while they still have reproductive rights. I am baffled that our society even remotely accepts Trump’s plans. Are the American people truly this torn and against one another? Trump being elected seems to answer that loudly for us—YES… Apparently the vast majority of this country is accepting of going back to a time when only white male, landowners held power over women and the rest of the people that are not “lucky” or “proper” enough to be a white male that owns property. This is not the America I want to live in, and it disgusts me that there are heartless people celebrating this buffoon. His speeches of uniting this country are made hollow by his actions and political agendas. He further drives a spike between the people of America while promoting hatred and segregation. I abhor this country at this moment. It has become an embarrassment being American while this clown is accepted as our leader. “Make America Great Again” … more like, “Make America Hate Again."
