Politics Have Turned From An Interest Of Mine To A Sad Reality Show

Politics is what got me into writing, but now our current political state just annoys me.

Politics Have Turned From An Interest Of Mine To A Sad Reality Show

I started writing for this website a little over one year ago. I believe May of 2017. The main reason I began was that I always had an interest in writing and am one of hate most opinionated people that I know. I didn't have anywhere productive to put my opinions and I had so many to express. Over the course of my time writing for this site, naturally, my opinions have evolved and I decided to put a lot of them on this site. Some were more well-received than others, but all of them have been authentic and passionate.

I say all this because the current state of our political landscape has managed to hurt and effectively put a pause on the passion I have for politics and open debate. I have built friendships on debating political issues, but discussing current events right now almost seems surreal and manufactured. The news feels more like something out of an old MTV show than political events that are actually happening.

Every day our news cycle is just the president being a bumbling idiot and it no longer feels like there is anything to debate or even look at. At this point, anyone who thinks Trump is actually doing a good job is either a) stupid or b) not truly looking at the events that have taken place. I chalk most of Trump's support to the latter. Sure, there will always be people on both sides of the political spectrum that will stan for their party's president. However, to watch what's happening is honestly just discouraging me to care.

There is still much to talk about, however current events are what prompt discussion. As someone who labels himself pretty conservative and aligns with a lot of Republican ideology, it is hard to even want to defend the party at the moment. The only positive thing happening for conservatives at the moment is the Supreme Court nominations that "Trump" is pushing through. Other than that, Trump is doing nothing for a conservative agenda. He doesn't seem to comprehend trade or deficits or how literally anything works.

Every single day in the news is just finding out which foreign relationship he damaged today. Which famous citizen did he attack today behind a phone screen instead of doing things that could actually better our nation?

I've mentioned before that I have Trump's tweet notifications on and have for some time now. That, combined with the general content and negative impact of his tweets have made for months of absolute dismay at the United States' current place in the world.

When I started writing it was still about conservatives and liberals and how to move forward policywise in our country. However, that discussion is not even really relevant right now. At the moment it is quite literally how do we do damage control against Trump and his legacy that will scar our country and our relationships with allies. Trump's policy is not even really something that comes up anymore because Trump can't pass anything anyway despite having the majority in every branch of our federal government.

Yet, it feels like every tweet sent and every lie made sends ripples through our country and our reputation. This, combined with the reality television feeling of our news has deterred me from current events in the recent months.

Let's get Trump out.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
