Trump Tweets

No offense to you Donald, if I may call you that, but you suck at Twitter.

I was talking to my brother a few weeks ago and he was telling me about how Trump using Twitter was a good thing and that he would be the first President to be readily accessible to the general public. I paused for a minute and thought about what he said. Yes, it’s true that Trump will be the first President to use Twitter (from his personal account, not the POTUS one) to communicate with the American (and international) people but I don’t think it’s a good thing. No offense to you Donald, if I may call you that, but you suck at Twitter. You resemble a three year old throwing a tantrum when you use Twitter. You use Twitter to dispute any and all negative claims that come your way and it’s not a good thing. If you’re going to be President, which you are, you need to have a thicker skin. Getting upset over Alec Baldwin’s impersonation of you on SNL (which is very funny and accurate by the way) makes you look immature. Getting upset over Meryl Streep rightfully calling you out while accepting an award makes you look petty. Meryl Streep is not overrated, she’s just right and you just don’t like that.

All jokes aside, Trump’s use of Twitter is not anything to be taken lightly. His words, though electronic, have power and they are seen by the international community, not just the American people. He has already created a combative narrative between him and the former President of Mexico over payment for the wall. Trump says the payment will come from Mexico, while former President of Mexico, Vincente Fox Quesada, says that Mexico will do no such thing. Trump already sparring with former President Quesada over matters such as this make me, and I’m sure the American people, worried about what will happen when Trump actually takes office on January 20th.

Trump’s former campaign manager and incoming White House counsel, Kellyanne Conway, wants the American people to look into the heart of Trump rather than what comes out of his mouth. Well, Kellyanne, if what comes out of his mouth and his Twitter feed resembles what’s in his heart, which I personally think it does, then the American people are in for a long ride. My personal opinion is that what is in your heart is reflected in your words and actions and so far I have seen nothing good in Trump’s heart.

What bothers me most is the amount of time Trump spends disputing negative stories about him. Guess what Donald? There will ALWAYS be naysayers, Obama had them, so did Bush and so did every President before you. What’s different between you and them is this: every time someone criticized them they did not issue a press release or tweet (since there really wasn’t Twitter) that immediately disputed the story and called the media dishonest, they merely ignored it like the big boys they are and kept working. Inside of you lives a sniveling immature child that is afraid of criticism. In case you haven’t realized, you’re an adult and you will always be criticized, no matter what because people don’t have the same opinions, it’s just the way it is and you need to get used to that.

Look Donald, I want to give you a chance, I really do, but your tweets make me nervous and make me less willing to give you a chance. If you want to be a good President, and I suspect you do, I suggest that you grow up and start accepting that people are going to be saying negative things about you for the rest of your life. I mean really, I learned that lesson when I was like ten years old, you’re 70 years old and you still haven’t learned that. I know it’s hard to change your ways so far into life, but really, dude, you really have to.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
