A Tribute To Hannah Nance
Rachel Gregory

A little back story: last year, my roommate was a stranger that became my best friend. Rachel and I quickly realized how much we have in common, so I moved in with her after two weeks of school. Best decision of my life. However, she became an RA this year and was supposed to live with another staff member: aka- not me. I didn't know what to do or who I was going to live with if I couldn't live with my best friend. I panicked. Then Rachel suggested Hannah.

I knew Hannah pretty well because she has been Rachel's best friend since high school and also goes to Truett. So Hannah always came with us to adventure and she also came to our room quite often. Because I knew Hannah through Rachel, I never really hung out with Hannah if Rachel wasn't there too. So when Rachel said, "Hey, you should talk to Hannah about rooming together!", I wasn't sure how I felt about it.

Fast forward to present day: Hannah makes a pretty great roommate. She gets me. Yeah, we're different in a lot of ways, but we respect those differences and go with it. She's funny, caring, adventurous, encouraging, and a wonderful friend. I like pink and monograms, Hannah likes Marvel and funky sweaters. It's just who we are, but somehow it works.

Hannah brings so much joy and laughter to my everyday life. They say laughter is the best medicine and if that's true, I don't think I'll ever get sick. When I asked Hannah what I should write about this week, she named a few things and then it hit me. I want people to see how wonderful this human is, so I'm gonna write about Han. I told her I would write about her and I think she thought I was kidding. She jokingly started listing some fun facts about herself and it went something like this. "I'm about 5'4 1/2", I'm gonna be a teacher, I like snacking, napping, and hiking, and that's about all I know about myself." Ain't she a gem?

Let me tell you, that's just a glimpse at the wonderful roommate I live with. She knows the boy scout code, she's dropping a mixtape soon, and she's going to marry Peter Parker (yes, Spider Man). She dreams big and achieves great things. She's going to make the BEST teacher someday and I hope my kids are lucky enough to have a teacher half as great as "Ms. Hannah".

Above all else, Hannah's heart for the Lord is inspiring. She constantly encourages me and is there when I need her. If you're lucky enough to be her friend, you found a keeper. She may joke around a lot, but seeing her serve others is so humbling. She's got a big smile and an even bigger heart.

I wasn't sure what to expect living with Hannah, but it is above and beyond what I imagined it would be. Hannah is simply a wonderful human with a love for food, music, naps, and Jesus. If you don't have a Hannah, get yourself a Hannah. I promise you won't regret it.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
