7 Trends We Hate To Love

Where do trends come from and why do the exist?

Trends are something that most of us have come to accept as a normal part of life. Whether they be fashion, food, or even social trends it’s almost guaranteed that we each take part in at least a few every day. If you’re like me, you’re always on the lookout for the next big trend that you can take part in it (or maybe scoff if it’s something ridiculous).

You’ve probably noticed that there are trends that actually make sense – like hats. Who doesn’t like a nice hat to hide their several day old oily hair? No one, that’s who! But on the other hand, there are trends that really have no rhyme or reason for being so popular.

Below is a list of trends that I personally don’t get (even though I participate in a few of them myself). I even linked the pictures if you want to jump on the bandwagon and take part in these trends yourself.

1. Kavu Rope Bags

Everyone from mothers of young children to sorority girls carry these bags. I can't leave my house without seeing at least a few people carrying these! What's so great about them? I get that you can put them on and move about freely without worrying that your purse is going to fall down your arms but let me just say that the straps on these bags are itchy! I actually bought one of these a while ago and have barely used it because if you have a sizable bosom they don't fit the way they should.

2. Chaco's

Until I got myself a pair of these I did NOT understand the hype. I thought they were ugly and over-priced (which they are). Let me just say that despite these two things they are probably the best shoes I've ever owned. They're great for any kind of activity that you want to do from shopping to hiking. My biggest complaint is that when you haven't worn them for a while it takes your feet a while to get used to them again.

3. Kimono's/Duster's

These are a favorite trend of mine because they are so darn cute! They really don't make sense though considering you're adding more layers to your summer wardrobe even though the temperature is already scalding. These are the perfect thing to top off your outfit when you're going out for a night on the town. 10/10 would recommend.

4. Donald Trump

Wait... what's this doing here? Well, since it's here I will say that support for The Donald is a trend that needs to disappear sooner rather than later. If we want to Make America Great Again we need to build A Future To Believe In...Vote Bernie 2016!

5. High Waisted Shorts

I know they look really nice on but high waisted shorts are the worst! Not only are a good pair that fit's you hard to find but they're immensely uncomfortable to wear. Most come up so high that it makes it hard to bend over! Why do we want clothes that make life more complicated?

6. Chokers

I will be the first to admit that not all chokers are bad but tattoo chokers like the one above are the worst! Not only do you have to stretch them out to go on over your head but they always end up getting caught in your hair! Plus, they don't last as long as you want them to because they get stretched out!

7. Birkenstocks

Birkenstocks are a trend that I really don't get. I mean they're kind of cute but they're terribly uncomfortable - at least in my experience. There has to be something about them that makes them be such big sellers but I'm not sure what... yet.

I hope my list helps you find comfort in knowing that you aren't the only person who doesn't understand these trends. Even though this list is rather short it definitely isn't complete - but that's an article for another time.

What are some trends you don't get that you take/took part in?

What do you think is the next big trend?

May the fashion Gods ever be in our favor.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
