Finally, the dream is now a reality. We have a talked and bickered, and heard fans chant their names, but now it is a reality. Yes that's right everyone, college football is back and in full swing. No more hearing about last season or hearing about what should have happened, everyone starts off clean, 0-0, ready for their chance to clam the title of National Champion.
Now, of course, some teams are better off than others, and some schools might have a better shot of playing in Glendale come December. But hey, anything can happen, right? Last year we saw a freshman quarterback take his team to an 11-1 season and on his back win them the whole dang title. Sometimes it is just the better player who wins this battle.
There is one thing, though, that could determine your season: players. Some players are just better than others: plain and simple. When you have a kid sitting in the wing and he could be a starter for any other team, you're going to have a solid lineup. Now we all know that teams like Alabama and Ohio State will shine this year, but do they have the best players? Let's take a look at every position and which school is in a prime position to succeed.
QUARTERBACK- OHIO STATE
Look, this is a no-brainier. Coming into last season, Braxton Miller was supposed to be the prime candidate for the Heisman trophy. Well, he missed last season with a torn shoulder and all eyes turned to freshman JT Barrett. What did Barrett do? Oh, you know, he just won 11 games while throwing 34 touchdowns.
Then in the Michigan game, Barrett went down with a broken ankle and eyes were forced onto Cardale Jones. By the way, Jones won three of the most important games of the year for the Buckeyes and has a chance to be the Ohio State starter. Face it: Urban Meyer only has one major problem, deciding on which one of these men will lead the Buckeyes to national glory.
RUNNING BACK- OKLAHOMA
Before Jonathan Williams went down for the season, I probably would have chosen Arkansas over the Sooners, but now it is kinda hard. You have to love what Samaje Perrine did last season in what could only be described as an average year for the Sooners.
Now as a sophomore, Perrine will have to step up and play his best football if Oklahoma wants to compete with TCU and Baylor. Not only will Perrine be strong, but former freshman standout Joe Mixon will have a shot to be a solid second-down back when Perrine needs a break. These two guys have a shot to be the best 1-2 punch in football.
WIDE RECEIVER- CLEMSON
DeShaun Watson may have had a rough-off season, tearing his ACL, but now he will have some of the top weapons in all of college football. Mike Williams, Artavius Scott and Charone Peake will continue to add on to the great names of Clemson wide receivers this season.
Both Williams and Scott had over 900 receiving yards last season and are expected to have those same numbers once again this season. Not only that, but playing in a weaker ACC than recent years. One thing is for sure, Clemson is on the rise and it's mainly due to their offense.
TIGHT END- ARKANSAS
While it seems hard to pick a tight end due to the fact that the position is a slowly dying breed in college, I'll go with Arkansas as the top team. I really like Hunter Henry and I believe he will have the breakout year in the SEC. Henry is your prototypical tight end, standing at 6'5" and weighing in at 250 lbs. Henry can do it all: block, catch, run; he's a stud.
