The month of October is famous for the new fall drinks at Starbucks, transferring your sweaters into your closet in exchange of your crop tops, and everyone’s favorite holiday, Halloween.
Along with Halloween comes the 13 Nights Of Halloween on ABC Family, premiering the best Halloween movies to get the country in the spirit of the holiday. 13 Nights of Halloween begins on the 19th of October, playing four movies every weekday, and then up to ten movies on the weekends.
If you claim to love Halloween and haven’t seen these fan-favorites, you’re doing Halloween wrong, but if you’re new to the Halloween movie world here are the first five movies you should watch.
1. Hocus Pocus
Hocus Pocus is the ultimate Halloween movie no matter what year it is. The Disney film premiered in 1993, starring Sarah Jessica Parker and two other actresses you’ve never heard of. The three main characters are the resurrected witches from the Salem Witch trials. You should know how the story goes, and if not, watch it on ABC Family the ten times they play it in the thirteen nights.
2. Casper
This is another oldie, but a very classic Halloween movie starring Casper the Friendly Ghost. Moving into a new home, the father and daughter learn that the house is haunted with four ghosts, including Casper. Casper then begins to fall in love with Kat, which is troubled by the fact he is a ghost and his annoying family of ghosts. It is played six times this year during Halloween so make sure to catch it!
3. The Nightmare Before Christmas
The main character, Jack Skellington, is from “Halloween Town” and enters the next realm of “Christmas Town” deciding to celebrate a different holiday this year, switching things up. Jack being the Pumpkin King, causes problems for Christmas because he doesn’t know how Christmas works. Even though Christmas is a huge part of the movie, The Nightmare Before Christmas is one of the best Halloween movies to date.
4. Paranorman
Paranorman, released in 2010, is one of the newest Halloween movies to be played during the 13 Nights of Halloween, Norman doesn’t have a lot of friends at school, but the friends he has are ghosts. His ghost friends ask him to use his powers of talking to the dead to stop the evil witch’s ghost from coming back to life. This stop-motion movie is the perfect new movie to watch this holiday season.
5. Monster's University
You wouldn’t expect Monsters University to be categorized as a Halloween movie, but it is being played during the 13 Nights of Halloween. The monsters going to school in order to learn how to scare humans, and definitely falls under the category of the scariness of Halloween. Make sure to catch the movie the two times it is played in the thirteen days.
