Today, super and niche food markets are flooded with products, for those who are trying to be mindful about how the fuel their body. However, many health foods aren't that healthy at all and are ladled with sugar and ingredients that are confusing to understand and probably shouldn't be in there anyway. Here are ten "health foods" that you may want to ditch.
1. Luna Bars
Containing twenty plus ingredients, like the oh-so-well-known Sodium Bicarbonate, Luna bars are filled with refined sugars and soy ingredients, which are hard for your body to break down.
2. Peanut Butter
True peanut butter should only have one ingredient (peanuts) or maybe two, if you count some added salt! Many peanut butters have lists that are far to long and sugary to be truly healthy, despite it's amazing protein punch.
3. Oatmeal
C'mon now, what's more healthy than oatmeal?? Well, not much, unless it's packed with sugars (up to 12 grams in Quaker's case). Most commercial oatmeals, unless there rolled oats, sneak in added sugar, which discount any healthful benefits the lil' oats can impart.
4. Whole Wheat Bread
A lot of whole wheat bread isn't really wholesome for you, as they are ladled with preservatives and sugars.
5. Yogurt
Not all yogurts are created equal. For example, Yoplait strawberry yogurt contains 26 grams of sugar! That's more than the daily intake of sugar recommended for women (25g).
6. Fruit Juice
Most fruit juices have immense amounts of added sugars. For example, Ocean Spray's Cranberry Juice contains 28g of sugar for ONE eight oz serving.
7. Diet Soda
There's nothing like chugging chemicals! Diet sodas, like Diet Coke can cause a wide range of harmful symptoms like depression, dimension, type two diabetes, and a great deal more. It may just be better to grab a non-diet soda, when you're craving a soda.
8. Granola
For most granolas, the recommended serving is half a cup, but let's be real who eats a mere half a cup of granola? For a full cup, granolas like the one pictured are burdened with sugars (26 grams in this case), and have a pretty high caloric value (440 for this Post Product).
9. Naked Juices
Naked juices make the impressive claim that their juices are packed with whole fruits and veggies, but really all that's packed in there are questionable fruit juices. While the around 53 grams of sugars, are claimed to be derived naturally from fruits, 53grams per serving is almost double to recommended sugar intake, for both men and women. If you're going to consume such a high quantity of sugar, it's better off to obtain it through eating a whole piece of fruit, to grab those good micronutrients in the process.
10. Flavored Nut Milk
There's nothing wrong with a nice glass of nut milk...until it's packed with sugars! Stay alway from the flavored nut milks, or make sure that the flavoring is not sweetened, or the health benefits of your milk will be outweighed by the added sugars. Yuck!
