1. Taking pictures and hanging with friends
From the selfies to the group shots, I took pictures and was in pictures. I mean the saying goes…if there's not a social media post, it didn’t happen. Even better than pictures, some of the best moments from Harvard- Yale were being with my friends and laughing at the halftime show and the weird signs that people were holding up.
2. Exploring New Haven the night before The Game
From street to street and building to building, it wasn’t the parties that made my night but the friends that I danced and screamed song lyrics with that made those cramped, dark living rooms with way too many people in them the only places I wanted to be. I can't forget to mention ending our night with Popeyes because it was definitely the place to be.
3. Harvard School Pride
Realizing a good amount of people at Harvard, while they may not totally understand the difference between a touchdown and a field goal, will cheer loudly regardless was pretty surprising. It was great chanting “SAFETY SCHOOL” and “Let’s Go Harvard” every time we got a touchdown…and trust me that happened often throughout the game.
4. Getting lost in the chaos of tailgating but still having a good time
It was my first college football tailgate so it was crazy to see multiple tailgates going on at the same time. Even though my friends and I got lost trying to find the main tailgate, we still had a great time, and with the amount of times I ran into someone I knew, it was just a steady amount of reunions throughout the day.
5. Being one in the sea of crimson
From babies who had the Harvard stars in their eyes to freshmen like me who just started their Harvard journey to the alums who were Class of before-I-was-born, it was definitely amazing to be a part of the Sea of Crimson. #GoCrimson.
The fact that it's the only time of year that you can get decked out in Harvard gear to the nines and have it not be super pretentious made sure no one could mistake our student section for belonging to anyone else but Harvard.
6. Meeting Yalies
Despite being the enemy, the nicest people I met were Yalies. From my host who was super accommodating to the great ones that had on-point dance moves to the random student who gave directions to a lost Harvard student (seriously though where is Phelps gate? Silliman college? Anyone?), Yalies were definitely a highlight of my weekend.
7. Having a friend take a nap in the middle of The Game
You may have seen the Snapchat, but if you didn’t, my friend did indeed take a nap during the second quarter of The Game. She said “Wake me up when we win or something interesting happens.” I guess when the win is a foregone conclusion, it's hard to keep your eyes open. #YuckFale.
8. Almost missing the shuttle (both times)
I definitely freaked out thinking I was going to miss my 5:30 shuttle to Yale…just to arrive at 5:30 and be greeted by a giant crowd of Harvard students. Suffice to say, an hour later we were on our way, and there was no need to speed walk in the first place.
Also, was I the only one that went back to Yale after the Game just to have to Uber back to the stadium to go home? There was a significant amount of speed walking involved, but we made it!
9. Harvard #winnin'
We came, we saw, we conquered.
