Many times, life throws you curve balls. Tragedy is a common thing in today's world, and it is a very rare thing to have lived a life unscathed by the losses and hardships that affect so many. Life knocks you down, and it is purely your choice whether or not you get back up.
Recently, I found myself wondering if my world would be turned upside down before lunch or if my life would be completely changed over a mere weekend. Even on less drastic days, I sometimes find myself struggling to look at each day as a blessing and not just an opportunity for a curse. What I have learned, however, is that your attitude is derived from your perspective, and your day is defined by your attitude. Sometimes, you just have to wake up and decide that today is a good day.
Not because good things have happened. Not because all of life's problems have been solved. Not because of blessings in disguise, or little surprises here and there. Not because of good friendships or family time. Not because of success or personal victories. Not because of broken things being fixed or relationships being mended. Not because of nothing going wrong, and everyone being happy. Not because of good or bad circumstances or life transitions. Not because it's pay day or because that cute boy FINALLY talked to you. Not because you had a good breakfast or had a good night with your friends. No.
Today is a good day, because God has not changed.
Today is a good day because the God of the universe loves you every second of every hour. Today is a good day because no matter what side of the bed you wake up on, His hands will strengthen and guide you. Today is a good day because no matter who is in your life, He always is. Today is a good day because you never have to fear the unknown. Today is a good day because you can lean on someone consistent and never changing. Today is a good day because you can be hidden safe in the arms of a God who never moves. Today is a good day because in Him, you are free.
Embracing this truth day by day has completely changed my life. As humans, our attitudes are mostly reflective of our circumstances. However, circumstances change; this causes our emotions to change as well. Living in a roller coaster of constant emotion and fear that things will change is no way to exist. Our lives and attitudes can be drastically altered when we wake up every morning with our eyes tuned into perspective. Our lives will always change and our comfortable routines will be uprooted, so focus on the Rock that will never move. And remember, today is a good day.
