Life is all about learning experiences. We learn every day. A lot of our learning experiences often involve learning from other people or with other people. Sometimes, we are fortunate enough to meet those people in our lives who help us learn, and if we are extremely lucky, help us find ourselves.
Fortunately for me, I met someone who helped me find myself.
I met this person not very long ago. Like anybody would be when meeting someone new, especially a potential significant other, you are hesitant. You are afraid to be completely honest in fear their honesty doesn’t match yours. You are scared your interests don’t match up with their's. It is all a learning process. But after meeting him, I felt different. He was patient, and he was kind. He liked what I had to say, and most importantly, he listened.
I knew I had to see him again. This first date wasn’t enough. I knew he was changing my life in a very short matter of time, and I’m not going to lie, it was kind of scary.
As time went on and we got closer, I started to find things in him I never had found in someone before. He was caring and considerate. He let me be honest with him – something I wasn’t used to before.
So how did he help me find myself?
Everything that he is helped me find me. Before meeting him, I wasn’t used to being honest with people in fear of hurting their feelings. He taught me that being honest is OK, and if people really care about you, they will accept your honesty and not judge you for it.
He let me learn that letting new people in is a beautiful thing.
He has taught me that being myself is the best version I can be of myself and people will love you for you, even if you are having a hard time loving yourself.
And the most important thing?
He has taught me how to be patient. He has taught me how to be kind. He has taught me that being a good person is the best thing you can do.
He has shown me that no matter what the situation is, there is someone there for you truly through everything, and isn’t that more than we can ask for in this life?
He has helped me grow up and appreciate the time we have in life because time isn’t unlimited.
He has shown me how to rise above something that pulls you lower than you want to go, and even though life may seem bad now, it will get better.
To the person who helped me find myself, we need more people like you in this life. We need more people who make us feel wanted and make us feel as special as you make me feel. Thank you for helping me find myself in this odd thing we call life.
Everybody deserves to find that person who helps them find themselves, and I thank God every day I found mine.
To the person who helped me find myself, I love you.
