Going into freshman year can be rough on students in more ways than you think. Starting off college classes is a lot different than high school classes. Of course, there is syllabus week, but it goes by quicker than you think and some professors like to jump right in. You're overwhelmed with the number of activities that they have for freshman specifically and are almost forced to meet people. I'm not saying meeting these people at the events is a bad thing, but it doesn't mean you're going to meet your best friends there either.
I'm here to tell you that it's okay if you haven't found your fit. You have friends for different things such as who you're sitting with at football games, the girls you get lunch with on the daily so you don't sit alone, or the ones you go to the gym with. These friends are important because they give you the strength to get up and go to your classes every day and they give you reasons to smile.
It's okay to feel down that you haven't found the people that you can go to for everything or who you constantly want to be with on the daily. It took me a long time to find a group of people I can be myself with, but it also took me awhile to realize I had to go out of my comfort zone. I ended up meeting my best friends while I was mentoring for a program in college. Of course, I have other friends I met during the school year, but the friends I met while mentoring make my life consistently better and want to see me do well. Cherish all the moments you have with any of your friends, you never know when they will come in and out of your life.
Whenever you feel overwhelmed that you haven't found your group in college yet, just remember that patience is key. I've come to realize that it really is about the quality of friends that you have and not the quantity. Trust me, finding friends who will drop everything to be there for you is worth the wait, so please don't give up on finding them. My advice is to apply for things that are out of your comfort zone and the friends that you meet there will challenge you and help you grow.
