To My Mini-Me

The little sister I always wanted, but never had; until now.

To My Mini-Me

Dear Smalls,

First off, I have to tell you how obsessed I am with you. Whenever I first talked to you during the philanthropy round of recruitment, I knew that I wanted to talk to you every single round after that. I remember you wore a purple dress and couldn't get over the fact that you matched us all, and I thought it was precious. When I got to talk to you during preference, I couldn't have been happier. Your spunky attitude, ability to laugh at my super lame jokes, and shameless-ness in eating all the snacks with me made me know right then and there that I had to have you as my own. The finally, bid day came and I saw you staring me down from across the field and I knew where you were headed. I was so happy to welcome you into our amazing sorority with open arms and I knew I wanted to do the same during big/little reveal.

Over the time I have gotten to know you since that day, I have realized what a truly amazing person you are. You are smart, kind, sassy, and don't take people's sh*t (you're definitely mine, that's for sure). You have no problem sticking up for what you believe in and those you care about. Your passion for our sorority has also given me even more passion and love for it than I did before, and for that I thank you. Sometimes, we all lose our ways and meeting you helped me back onto my path.

When it was time to pick bigs and littles, I was SO nervous I wasn't getting the call asking if I would take you. It felt like hours went by so slow, then my phone finally rang and I was over-joyed hearing your name saying you wanted me as your big. And, with no hesitation, I said yes and finally had you as my own. Over these past few weeks, I have played some pretty awful pranks on you trying to trick you into thinking I wasn't your big. From telling you I wasn't taking a little this semester to "changing" your big so many times you had no idea who it was anymore. I would say sorry, but the reaction of you looking around the circle in the chapter room for the girl holding your baby picture was priceless when you saw it was me. I knew all my scheming and lying did exactly what I wanted it to.

Now that I have you and you know I'm your big, I want you to know that I am here for you for anything little. Need someone to go stuff your face with? I'm here. Need someone to pick you up from the off campus social event you're at? I'm here. Need someone to cuss out the boy who broke your perfect, amazing heart? You bet your ass I'm here. There are going to be so many good times ahead with us, and I can't wait to see what's in store.

Along with that though, there will be bad. There will be times you'll get mad at me for being too over-protective, and too into your business. I will scold you on things, but that's just because I know what you're worth and what you deserve and don't deserve, and what decisions are right and wrong for you. You will dislike me at some points, but don't forget that I do them because I LOVE YOU.

You mean the world to me already, little one. Cheers to the next three years and your entire lifetime.

Love you always,

Biggie

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
