Dear best friend,
I remember the day we met, at high school softball tryouts. I helped you out and I thought that’s all that we would be, teammates that helped each other out when we needed it. Then one day, you invited me over. I was a little hesitant but thought, what’s a night out of my house? This was back when neither one of us could drive so we had to arrange the drop off and pick up times with our mothers, and of course, our mothers had to meet.
I know that I had a lot of trouble trusting you and opening up to you, but I am glad I did. I never thought we would be as close as we are today. You have been there for me through good times and bad, when I have been sick (which is a lot) and when I’ve been healthy. We’ve talked about how we will be those best friends that time having a child at the same time so that they can be best friends. We know each other more than most sisters know each other.
I want to thank you for all those times I have called you late at night needing a friend and letting me stay the night when I just need to get away. I want to thank you for being the kind of best friend that will drop everything to help me when I need you. Thank you for being the best friend that hasn’t turned on me. Thank you for coming to stay at college with me when I was self-diagnosed depressed. Thank you for becoming a family member and becoming my plus-one on vacations, birthdays and family get-togethers. Thank you for being there when my dad was in the hospital. Thank you for being understanding and talking me through that tough time when you were the only other one that understood. Thank you for knowing me better than I know myself. Most of all, thank you for being my best friend.
Without you in my life, I honestly don’t know where I would be. You have always been there when I need you. Please, don’t ever leave me, best friend. I don’t know what to do without you in my life.
Love,
Your best friend
