To future and current WVHS Warriors,
I never thought I could miss anything more than my home. Now I don't mean my home where my family is, but I mean home as in Waubonsie Valley High School. From the moment we walk into those doors we all start to dream of the day we'll graduate and we hope it will come fast. But as I start my school year as a freshman in college, I've come to realize that I'd do anything to be cheering on the football team one more time, get a friendly "good morning" from Mr. Stipp, watch warrior update in class, and most importantly be in the comfort of the warrior community- a community where it is okay to be you, where we bleed green and gold, and regardless of what friend group you talk to, everyone is there to celebrate, cry, laugh, and support each other.
Your class house is arguably one of the best places in the school. The Class of 2016 house was a place I could go whether I was having a great day or a bad day (and if I slept in a little too late and missed first period). So I guess if I'm calling WVHS home, your class house is like your bedroom. Along with your little family in the class house, the teachers at Waubonsie are unlike any other; they're funny, helpful, strict, supportive, but most importantly they're understanding. They understand that we are all capable of so much- even if we ourselves don't know it yet. They understand what being a high school student is like. And they understand that life happens. Whether we know it or not, the teachers are at Waubonsie are always going to be there for us when we have great news or bad news. Please take the time to thank your secretaries, dean's, and counselors, and teachers. They do so much every day to make sure you truly get the best experience at WVHS.
People say this over and over again, but those four years in high school are truly the quickest years of your life. I wish I spent less time saying, "I can't wait to graduate", and more time being grateful that for the time being, I had WVHS to call home. So my advice to you is to simply take it all in. Study hard, go to events, try new things, and most importantly have fun and make those memories with your friends, family, and teachers. Because soon enough you will all be miles away from each other. The best part of making those memories is that the little things, like hearing the Warrior Fight song as you re-watch old Warrior Updates, will send you back to those Friday nights at Dick Kerner and bring a smile to your face. Or when you pick up your instrument after you haven't played since your last high school music class and you remember what it felt like to perform on the auditorium stage. High school is what you make of it so live it up and enjoy every moment of it. We were all lucky to be able to experience high school as a warrior. Good luck to the Class of 2017 and as always go warriors!
