We all know that feeling when you come back home from vacation or a trip somewhere, and you immediately are thrown back into reality and lose your vacation buzz. For most college students, leaving for spring break gave them that sense of a buzz and allowed them to feel relaxed and escape from the reality of school for a while. But then, the dreaded Monday came back, and reality hit hard. Almost harder than ever before because the sense of urgency became overwhelming, and it becomes even harder to try and compose yourself to maintain from combusting. The fact that we have only four weeks left of the semester now is utterly terrifying, so here are my tips on how to survive these next few weeks.
1. Sleep
Yes, I know every mom, grandma, authority or doctor stresses the importance of getting enough sleep each night, but really they stress it so much because of how important it really is for your brain. Your brain loves when you finally close the books and decide to call it a night or a nap and allow yourself time to replenish. Your brain loves sleep so much that you could put it into comparison with how much you love Taco Bell or coffee. It loves it that much. So, allow yourself the time to get good rest.
2. Coffee or another form of caffeine
It is true that from time to time, or more often than not, you're going to find yourself getting ready to go to bed when a switch in your brain clicks on, and you realize that you have completely forgotten about your five page research essay that is due in the morning. So what do you do? Well, you drink. Coffee, duh! What else would I be talking about? Coffee or another form of caffeine instantly has become your best friend now, so take advantage of it and drink up. Crush that paper, and remember that the caffeine will be there when the sun wakes up in the morning.
3. Don't over-stress
Stress is a menacing, controlling, monster that sucks all the fun and joy out of your life, so try not to let it control too much of your life. Not only is stress a fun sucker, but it also makes it 10 times harder to be truly successful and do well in your classes, as well as the other aspects of your life. Don't let your stress handle you; learn how to handle your stress.
4. Eat good food
Yes, that means you probably shouldn't eat chocolate cake and cereal for every meal of the day, and that you should probably add good food into your diet. Again this is all about making your body and your brain happy, which in turn make you happy and more successful at tackling your everyday activities. Eating good food gives you an adequate amount of fuel to chip away at your mountain that you have to overcome by the time the sun says good night. So eat! And eat well.
5. Relax
Life is short, and your time at college is even shorter, so take advantage of every opportunity you can to relax and have fun with your surrounding community. The stress in your life is going to continue mounting up on top of you until you go out with friends, have fun and shake the stress off of you. Really grasp those opportunities that you have in life at hand, and live everyday to the fullest that you possibly can.
All in all, remind yourself that you are on the downward slope of the mountain heading to the end of this year and you're so close to the finish. And remember to take time to relax and soak up the experiences you have in life while at college, because it will be over in the blink of an eye.
