Taking time for yourself is important. Whether you are a college student in the midst of finals (I feel your pain!) or a parent or grandparent getting ready for the holidays, or maybe working crazy hours this season, this time of year can be overwhelming. And while the holiday season is the best kind of overwhelming, with many sights to see, sounds to hear, and treats to taste, sometimes you just need to escape; even if that escape is in your bathtub for 30 minutes. So here is a list of ways you can, and should, relax during the most wonderfully-hectic time of the year.
1. Unplug: Sometimes, when I get super stressed out, I put away my laptop, turn my phone on silent, and get away from technology. Taking a minute to step away from social media and emails can be so refreshing. Not only can you clear your mind and reset, but you can catch up on a good book or fit in a quick nap. Even when you're on a time crunch, taking a minute or thirty can make you feel relaxed and more productive, and ready to tackle the next items on your to-do list.
3.Treat yourself: This is my favorite thing to do when I get overwhelmed, mainly because I have a major sweet tooth. But you don't have to just get candy, cupcakes, or sweets to treat yourself. Go out to dinner. Buy yourself something new that you've wanted for a while. Get a massage or a pedicure or a face mask at a drugstore for a fun night in. Do something out of the ordinary and treat yo' self!
4. Sweat it out: Take a walk. Go for a run. Lift weights. Do yoga. Whatever your preferred workout may be, do it. Stress can be a liquid, and if you need to get rid of a bit, exercise can help.
It is the most wonderful time of the year, and you should feel wonderful too. Take some time this season to relax, unwind, and enjoy the holidays.
