Classes are finished, exams are just around the corner, and students are eager to take a break from all the stress and studying to kick back and relax. Here are twelve things to look forward to this holiday season.
1. New Film Releases
There's nothing better than catching a movie with friends, family, and loved ones. What makes this especially true is the number of great films coming out around the holidays. Grab a bucket of popcorn and a big cup of soda and hit up the cinema this break. Two tickets for the Hateful Eight, please!
2. Star Wars: The Force Awakens
Okay, so we can't talk about new movies coming out without mentioning this. The new Star Wars film directed by JJ Abrams is set for release on December 18 and judging from the trailers it promises to please fans both new and old. It's going to be awesome, so you better get your tickets early!
3. Exploring The Commonwealth
Fallout 4 came out a few weeks ago and it's a gorgeous game set in a deep and rich environment. Having some extra down time will give gamers a chance to delve even further into side quests and lore. Whether you spend a day fortifying your newest settlement or decide to travel into the Glowing Sea to fight irradiated monsters, it's sure to be a fun time. If you haven't picked up a copy yet, do it. Now.
4. New Shows On Netflix
There are also tons of new movies and TV shows set to be added in 2016. Of note are the new Series of Unfortunate Events, the 3rd season of Bojack Horseman, and the 3rd season of The Peaky Blinders. Fuel your binge-watching with some new shows this season.
5. Holiday Shopping
Whether you're shopping for others or taking advantage of hot buys for yourself, finding seasonal clothes on markdown or electronic bundles for cheap is always worth the trip to the mall. Keep an eye out for great bargains on everything from books and music to TV's and sound bars.
6. Christmas Music
Dance like no one is watching! Don't be afraid to get down and boogie to the Jingle Bell Rock.
7. Christmas
Just because you're grown up doesn't mean you can't enjoy Christmas. Family, food, and holiday cheer, plus leftovers. Spending time with loved ones over a home-cooked meal is a great way to unwind after a long semester spent locked away in the library at school. Go home and see your parents, plan a winter retreat with friends, or just curl up by the fire with a significant other. Embrace the cheer, you guys.
8. More Pumpkin Pie
As the signature dessert of the holiday season, pumpkin pie can be found in abundance throughout November and December. However, the homemade pie from Grandma's always tastes just a little bit sweeter. Bring lots of containers to hoard as much as possible.
9. "New year, new me!"
No, just kidding. But really, do get excited for 2016 because there's loads of great stuff right around the corner. Make a resolution or don't, but at least consider trying something new in the New Year. Change is good. Just don't go overboard.
10. Fireworks
Okay, so this is really only positive for December 31st/January 1st. We all know throwing down some blankets and lawn chairs to watch a colorful display of shimmering lights is fun, but what I always look forward to most about fireworks is when they stop. It is not necessary to shoot fireworks outside my window for the entire month of January. Please and thank you.
11. The Break
After all the festivities of the holidays die down, it feels amazing to sit and just do nothing, even if only for one afternoon. Be sure to actually take a break during the break so you'll be ready when it's over. Clear out at least a few days for some much-deserved rest and relaxation.
12. Going Back
This may sound totally weird, but I always get excited for new classes. If you don't share in my enthusiasm, at least celebrate the fact that the start of each semester brings you a step closer to graduation. For upperclassmen, there's no better feeling than knowing you're almost at the finish line. Enjoy that feeling.
