College is an opportunity to find what you’re passionate about. Whether that is biology, math, theatre or business, college can be extremely rewarding. To help you capitalize on that passion, here are seven tips to help you make the most of your college career and time spent.
1. Manage Your Time
Not procrastinating is crucial to success. If you start a week in advance and work a little bit each day, your stress levels will significantly decrease, you can gain adequate sleep and understand the material better.
2. BFF Your Professors
The Obi-Wan Kenobi to your Anakin Skywalker (yes I just referenced "Star Wars"), These are your guides for your courses, college career and potential career post-graduation. Go to their office hours and get to know them. They want to see their students succeed and can help you not only in their class, but will also they provide their insight into your college career.
3. See the World
Studying abroad is an opportunity unlike any other as you are able to experience other cultures, find new interests and challenge yourself to step out of your comfort zone. So pack your bags and go where your heart desires.
4. I Just Wanna Make You Sweat....
College is stressful so it is imperative to take time to exercise. It has been found that exercise stimulates brain cell development, improve memory retention, relieves stress and boosts one’s mood. By exercising at least 3 times a week you will see a difference in your mood, focus and anxiety levels.
5. Raise Your Hand!
Although classes can be intimidating, let’s be honest, you really don’t want to participate much in your 8:30 a.m. class. Sorry to burst your bubble, but class participation is beyond helpful. You will not only remember the lectures better since you were actively engaged, you will also catch the professor’s attention, which can help you later on.
6. Make a Study Guide
By not using your friend's study guide and by creating your own, you are forced to reflect on and comprehend course concepts to create a permanent reference. By making your own study guide, you are better absorbing the material, which will allow you to do better on the exam.
7. Get Involved
Campus organizations are a vital and easy way to discover your passions, connect to your school, become a leader and find a community. By being actively involved, you will gain new experiences that you wouldn’t otherwise gain inside the classroom.
So join a club. Find your passions. Meet new and interesting people. Remember that you are at college to grow as a person and educate yourself. With finals coming up soon, use these tips and watch your grades soar.
