To many, there is nothing quite as beautiful as seeing assortments of candy bags lining the aisles of Target and Walmart. It’s a reminder that come October 31st, dozens of children and adults will be filling the streets in hopes of stuffing their pumpkins and bags with delicious, sugary treats.
However, while trick-or-treating is a fantastic way to spend Halloween for the younger generation and their parents, for many in the mid-teens to those in their mid or late twenties, the idea of going around door to door in costumes asking for free candies doesn’t sound as appealing as it once did in their youth.
For those who fit that demographic, have no fear, there are other ways to spend the evening. Below are three alternatives to trick-or-treating:
Movie Night
There is nothing quite as relaxing as putting on an old pair of sweats and cuddling under a favorite blanket while munching on some popcorn or chips. If you’re a home body- like me- then use Halloween as an excuse to rewatch some classic horror films.
Bring out your old copies of The Shinning or The Blair Witch Project and turn your speakers to full volume as you settle in for a comfortable night at home. But if horror movies aren’t your thing, there’s always The Nightmare Before Christmas or the original Ghostbusters movie, among many other films, to choose from that will fit in with the Halloween spirit.
And if you don’t want to spend the night alone, you can always have a movie night with your friends.
Dress Up and Go Out to Eat
If you want to dress up but have nowhere to go, then go ahead and dress up and hit the town. Invite your friends out to eat while dressed in costume. Some places will offer discounts for anyone in costume on Halloween.
Krispy Kreme will give anyone in costume a free glazed donut and Chipotle offers a three-dollar salad, bowl, tacos, or burrito for those who dressed up. However, this year Chipotle requires a person to add something “unnecessary” (an extra piece that stands out in your costume) to their get up to qualify for the discount.
You can even hit up Denny’s or a local dinner and spend the evening catching up.
Plan A Trip to A Haunted House
Halloween isn’t Halloween without some scares. There are hundreds of haunted houses opened for business on Halloween night. If you can handle all the spooks and jumps that these places cause, then spend the night getting scared silly.
While some haunted homes are scarier than others, they all offer the same degree of fun. Sometimes, one can’t help but want to be scared silly and then laugh about it afterward. Even if you don’t come out scared out of your mind, then at the very least you can say that you spent your Halloween having fun.
