5 Thoughts We All Have During Syllabus Week

The one time you're required to go to class.

Classes are back in session which means it's time for everyone's favorite week-syllabus week. Syllabus week is by far the best yet the worst week of the school year. With a light schedule, you have all the free time in the world but, be prepared to be bored.

1. "I don't want to be awake right now."

Whether you're taking an 8 a.m. or an 11 a.m., we all can agree we would rather be asleep.

2. "Do I really have to be here?"

Some people might be lucky enough that they can skip syllabus week but, unfortunately, at my school you're required to attend. If you are forced to attend then you understand how uninteresting it can be.

3. "Am I in the right class?"

As a new student, I am still trying to learn my way around and one of my biggest fears this week was sitting in on the wrong class. So far this hasn't happened and I appreciate the other classmates who confirm that we are in fact at the right place.

4. "How long until I get to leave?"

As you sit there listening to the syllabus, your brain has probably started to wonder other thoughts. During this time, you might be thinking about a lot of things like what you're going to wear out tonight, what you want for dinner, or in my case, focus on how much longer you have left in this class.

5. "Finally, I can take a nap."

After a long day of classes, the thing I am always most excited for is the opportunity to take a nice long nap.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
