40 Thoughts That Go Through Your Mind During A Race
Martins Zemlickis

1. Yippeeee! Race day is here.
2. I can't wait to start!
3. Where are my running buds?
4. Wow..there's a lot of people here.
5. Oh..there's my friends! Pre-run picture time!
6. I hope my hair looked good.
7. I'm so ready for this race. I am awesome! I can do this!
8. Why am I doing this again?
9. I should probably warm up my legs a bit...
10. Oh crap! We're starting!
11. This should be easy, I feel great.
12. Wow, it feels great to run with so many people. I love all of these runners!
13. How long have I been running? I must be at least half way.
14. It's been seven minutes? SEVEN MINUTES??
15. Okay, I can do this. Just focus on staying with that girl in front of me.
16. Why is she getting further away?
17. She must have trained much longer then I did...okay, how about following this guy?
18. I'm doing awesome, maybe I'll even PR today!
19. DID A CHILD JUST PASS ME?
20. Okay...I just have to make it to the water station.
21. Phew..I made it. How does everyone else run while grabbing water without punching the volunteer?!
22. Note to self: Google how to run through water stations when I get home.
23. Okay, second wind here I come!
24. Or I could start out slow again.
25. I am a runner.
26. Look at me, running with all these runners.
27. I have to pee.
28. I can hold it...I must be close to the end.
29. You can do this.
30. I've just gotta run 10 more minutes.
31. Running is stupid.
32. Do these people actually enjoy running?
33. Did my legs just stop? Am I even running? This is like a walking pace..
34. Come on body, just a little further! I love you body!
35. Oh great, a camera. I probably look like I'm dying.
36. The finish line....so close!
37. If I sprint to the finish maybe I'll cut 12 minutes off my time.
38. WAAAAATERRRRRRRRRRR.
39. I'm finally done! Never again. Ever ever. Running is stupid. So stupid.
40. When's the next race?

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
